TMW: Lenglet option is open to Milan but negotiations will not be simple

By Euan Burns -

The option to sign Clement Lenglet for defensive depth is open to AC Milan but it will not be easy for the Rossoneri to bring the Aston Villa defender in, a report suggests.

As has been reported by TMW’s Niccolo Ceccarini (via Milan News), the Lenglet option should be considered open to Milan but given his current situation, there will be a lot of unpicking to do.

Lenglet is owned by Barcelona but is currently on loan at Premier League side Aston Villa. He is not a starting player for the Villains and would almost certainly be up for a new challenge.

Villa coach Unai Emery has expressed his desire to keep Lenglet for the rest of the season, but Barcelona will have some sway over this situation.

Were they to recall the Frenchman, Milan could then discuss a short loan deal with the Blaugrana. They would almost certainly want there to be an option or obligation for Milan to buy the player at the end of the season.

Should Milan decide that this is too complicated, there are many other option available such as Thilo Kehrer at West Ham and Lloyd Kelly at Bournemouth.

What is clear is that the first defender through the door will be Matteo Gabbia as he returns from his loan at Villarreal.
