TMW: Milan face transfer battle with rivals Atalanta to land Italy U21 centre-back

AC Milan face a battle with their Lombardy rivals Atalanta to sign defender Matteo Lovato from Hellas Verona, according to a report.

TMW writes how the profile of Lovato is also among the players that the Rossoneri are keeping an eye on in case they need to make another signing for the defence, perhaps because of the potential departure of captain Alessio Romagnoli.

However, the 22-year-old defender is also followed by Atalanta with great interest. Their decision not to sign Mattia Caldara outright – who will return to Milan again after a negative experience in Bergamo – forces their management to find at least one other centre-back to be able to reinforce the department.

If Milan are serious about landing the Italy U21 international, therefore, it seems they may have to move quickly to ensure that La Dea do not snap up another promising young talent. Lovato made 24 Serie A appearances for Verona last season in what was a breakthrough campaign.

  1. We never win any transfer battles. We only buy old & useless players like Giroud, whom nobody else wants.

    Good luck in Atalanta 🙂
