TMW: Motta set for crucial meeting with Bologna as Milan and Juventus links swirl

By Oliver Fisher -

While celebrating their first ever Champions League berth, there continues to be an absence of news regarding the future of Bologna’s head coach Thiago Motta.

As TMW recall, Motta’s contract expires at the end of the season and so far the coach has not communicated his intentions regarding his future to the club’s top management. In the meantime, Milan and Juventus are watching on, attracted by the idea of entrusting their project to him.

The long-awaited meeting from which Motta’s fate will emerge will be held this week. Those attending include obviously the head coach but also each member of the management including Joey Saputo, the CEO Fenucci, the technical director Giovanni Sartori and the sporting director Marco Di Vaio.

During this face-to-face, the former midfielder will clarify his intentions. It is likely that Saputo will make one last attempt to convince him to stay, the owner of Bologna who hopes to keep hold of Motta.

Juventus will play in the Coppa Italia final against Atalanta tomorrow and must in turn resolve their reservations about the potential sacking of Massimiliano Allegri, but have long identified Motta as the right name to take over from him.

As for Milan, their own process to find Stefano Pioli’s heir is ongoing but it must be said that Motta ticks a lot of boxes on paper.

  1. I hope he stays at bologna even tho I’d love him at Milan.. I’m always pro underdog and bologna with keeping the coach and not selling at mass would be a nice mix up for the top 4 fight next season.

    1. Next season Napoli, Roma would be back. This was one of the worst seasons they ever had. Lazio might be in better shape too. It would be much harder for Bologna to get back in top 4. And if they don’t have a good season Motta chance to move to a top club might be gone. If he is smart he will take the chance now. Teams like Milan and Juve don’t come calling every day.

      1. Meh.. if he is good, which i believe he is, he will make top spots again. Lazio was only good because of Sarri, and he is gone. Roma was never good to begin with. Napoli is always hot and cold..juve is shît and Milan well we shall see who we get but i recon top 4 next season should be a doable achievement without 2 much hassle.

If atlanta was able to get top 4 now and then with stability (and i use that loosely because they always sell players, why cant bologna do it?)?

  2. This is reminding me of Marcus Thuram’s deal all over again.
Tons of articles about Milan interest and weeks of speculations about the talks and contract with Inter being mentioned as they made some contacts but Milan is crushing it.
Then in one week Marotta finishes the deal while the management was watching with a big stupid smile
Next year will be much more difficult, better to hire a proven coach in Italy otherwise keeping Pioli will be the best alternative.
