TMW: Primavera star idolises Kaka and rejected Barcelona and Juventus for Milan – Pioli taking note

By Oliver Fisher -

Those who keep an eye on the Primavera will have noticed a name getting on the scoresheet more regularly this season in Giacomo Olzer.

The 19-year-old was on form yet again during Sunday’s 4-0 win over Empoli at the Vismara. He scored a brace in the rout as he moved on to six goals in eight appearances in the league so far this term. Having made his senior debut against Torino already, it seems the club are well aware that the future is bright for the 19-year-old.

According to TMW, Olzer’s exploits are getting noticed by Pioli because of his outstanding technical skills, added to which he has a combination of creativity and flair that make him one of the most exciting players of his age group in Italy.

He started at local side Rovereto and then moved on to Chievo where he was employed as a centre-forward due to his powerful physique. Juventus, Barcelona and Milan above all wanted him after impressing there, but the decisive project and the fact he supported the Rossoneri as a child persuaded him to go there.

After having helped bring the team back to Primavera 1 last year, Olzer is continuing his development this year. In the month of February he has already scored 3 goals in 3 matches. Interestingly, both his parents in fact were volleyball players, while he went towards football because of his idol Kakà

Who can rule out that one day he will not be able to follow in the footsteps of his idol with the No.22 jersey on the San Siro pitch, in what would represent the crowning of the dream cultivated since childhood.

  1. Give some more chances to this kid, Pioli! Let’s see whether he can replace Calhanoglu, since Calha is not worthy of 5 or 6 million per year net salary.
