Fikayo Tomori has gone from a problem within AC Milan’s defence to a pillar of it, and the club wish to recognise this.
As Corriere dello Sport (seen below) write this morning, last season’s defensive crisis was Milan’s true Achilles heel, and within that flawed machine there were even Scudetto-winning heroes who showed signs of weakness.

Among these, the decline of Tomori stood out, as he no longer looked like the dominant, fast and physical defender that had arrived at Milanello in January 2021. Today, however, the atmosphere has changed, and Massimiliano Allegri’s ‘cure’ is producing positive effects.
New deal beckons
The paper writes: ‘Tomori’s return, plus a new contract with the Rossoneri. The defender’s decline was one of the factors in Milan’s crisis last year. The Englishman is as decisive as his first year with the Rossoneri: the club is ready to extend his contract’.
The Englishman – who also lost his place in the national team – has now returned to excellent form, demonstrating the solidity, speed and leadership that made him one of Serie A’s most valuable centre-backs.

The management’s appreciation is two-fold. Tomori is admired not only for his performance on the pitch, but also for his attitude. The former Chelsea man rejected the idea of being sold in the January transfer window, digging his heels in to regain a starting spot.
The paper adds that ‘credit goes to Allegri’, who is known for his ability to recover and develop struggling players (as he is doing with new signings and established leaders). He has worked on Fikayo’s concentration and defensive positioning.
In a Milan side that – as Ibrahimović emphasised – seeks ‘balance and stability’, Tomori has returned to being a key asset. The imminent contract extension isn’t just a reward for the defender, it’s a sign that the club intend to move forward with him in the future too.
Tomori is indeed looking solid. Combining well with Salemaekers and the other CBs. In a back 4, I think he could also do a solid job as a RB. Pavlo and Peris also combine well on the left which is another reason why the defense looks much more stable.
