Tomori says Milan renewal is ‘proof of how happy’ he is at the club

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori has said that the contract renewal that he recently signed is proof of how happy he is at the club right now.

Speaking during an interview with Milan TV, via Milan News, Tomori explained how settled he is at the club right now and feels that his recent contract renewal exhibits that.

“A few months ago I renewed my contract is that is proof of how happy I am here and the fact that I see myself in this jersey in the coming years as well,” Tomori said.

“We all know that the Premier League is the best league in the world, but I am lucky enough to play for AC Milan in Serie A, where I am learning to be meaner in defence. I am doing well here and Milan is the best for me and I am very happy about that.”

In order to further emphasises how settled he is both at the club and in the city as a whole, Tomori explained how he has recently started renting an apartment in Milan.

“I like the lifestyle in Milan, although I haven’t bought a house…. I decided to rent an apartment. One of the reasons I decided to extend my contract is because I am happy here.

“And my friends and family also feel comfortable. I think Milan is a beautiful and welcoming city and this is very important to me. The knowledge of the language accelerated my acclimatization in the team and in the Italian culture I am really excited to be able to train and play in this team every day. I am really having a great time.”

Tomori was signed by Milan from Chelsea and it was a surprise to many when he stopped getting regular game time in the Premier League. He says that he is excited to face the team that let him go.

“I am excited. The match against Chelsea is very important and I can’t wait to return to Stamford Bridge to take on the Blues, it will be a special challenge for me.

“For me, challenging Chelsea is a great opportunity to show how much I have grown since I have been here; so many people, by the way, follow Milan matches. Coming back to Stamford Bridge, where it all began, and playing is a great chance to show my qualities.

“It will be good to see everyone again. With Jorginho we have already seen each other during the national break and it will be really nice to see everyone else again, but as soon as the referee blows the whistle, for 90 minutes we will no longer be friends, because both teams will be fighting for the three points.

“At Chelsea I went through the whole youth sector and I have many friends there; I admit I still follow Chelsea games when I can.”

Tomori also revealed that he had a feeling Milan would be drawn to face Chelsea even before it happened. It is not the first time he has faced them at Stamford Bridge but this is certainly the most high-profile example.

“I had already come as an opponent to Stamford Bridge with Derby County and I know what it means, but doing it in the Champions League and with Milan will be different.

“I’m ready for this match and can’t wait to take the field; even before the draw I felt we would draw Chelsea…. It will be great to see faces I know again and to return to a place where I played. London then is beautiful…this will be a great game and the goal is to return to Milan with the three points.”
