Torino president takes Milan target off the market again: “No intention of selling”

Torino president Urbano Cairo has claimed that he has ‘no intention’ of selling captain Alessandro Buongiorno this summer, despite the exit talk.

Buongiorno is one of the most talked about players in the Italian media given that he is one of the national team’s most promising defenders and he continues to show himself to be among the best centre-backs in Serie A.

Milan have been repeatedly linked with a move for the 24-year-old since the January window when they required urgent help for the defence, and those links have continued in view of the upcoming summer mercato.

Now, Torino’s president Cairo has given an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he spoke about the season that has just ended and what might happen to some of their key players.

“Since Rodriguez didn’t stay, he will also have the armband. He has a contract until 2028 and I want to keep him because I love him,” he said (via Radio Rossonera).

“His value? I don’t know, I didn’t put him on the market and therefore he doesn’t have a price. He is coming off the back of a super season because, after he wanted to stay with us last summer, he was even more responsible.

“He had an amazing performance level and left no room for any attacker. I enjoy having him and I have no intention of selling him.”

It has also been mentioned by various outlets that Napoli and Inter are keen on Buongiorno, as well as clubs from the Premier League.

    1. Give him 100m, he will sell Buongiorno in a heartbeat.

You just believe what an idiot like him said, and take chance to give a jab at our current management when the article don’t even talk about them… Talk about desperate.

      1. Of course he would sell at 100, although, judging from Belotti’s case, he might not even sell if the price is deemed lower than what he had in mind. But 100M should probably do it.

Was I taking a jab? Sure. Is his approach of playing hard to get better than a loose comment that if 40M offer comes, he would personally pack Buongiorno’s bag? Definitely.

  1. At least nobody else gets him if he stays true to his word. Tho I wouldn’t trust a single thing an idiot like him says.

  2. What Cairo says is ‘Buongiorno is our player and pillar of the team’, what he really ‘says’ is “Give me the right numbers and I will get his bags for you”

  3. Anyone with a promise considering signing or renewing for Torino should demand a reasonable release clause implemented within their contract.

  4. Doesn’t matter for Milan. The Trio won’t authorize a 40mil CB investment. Our sweet spot seems to be in the 20mil range.

  5. Cairo is a Grade-SSS as$hole, no doubts there.

But gotta hand it to him, he at least wants to keep his players no matter what unlike another tapeworm feeding on Milan. Gotta give respect where its due.

  6. Probably prompted by Scalvini’s injury. Anyone looking at a top, ready, young Italian defender just had their options halved.
