Reports: Tuchel the key as Chelsea beat Milan and Barcelona to €24m coup

By Oliver Fisher -

Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign teenage midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa, beating the competition to his signature.

According to The Athletic, the fee that Chelsea will pay Aston Villa for the 18-year-old is £20m which works out at around €24m, and the teenager has been given permission to travel to London to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

The report adds that Chukwuemeka was being chased by Barcelona and Milan while other clubs in Italy and Germany were keen on signing him given that his deal expires in June 2023. Not only that, but there was ‘plenty of interest in England too, and Chelsea have emerged winners of the race.

Villa have tried to extend his contract since October and they made an offer that they believed he could not refuse, promising to make him central to their future plans, but in the end it was not good enough.

According to Nizaar Kinsella of Goal, Thomas Tuchel played a big role in the deal as he ‘met Chukwuemeka last week to help convince him in a meeting down at Cobham’. It is believed he ‘looked at the situation in midfield with contracts at Chelsea and thought he could break into the first team in 2023’.

  1. Disgrace at 18 yrs old.. badly managed by agent.. good ridance UTV!! We are better off without him.. his brother Caleb is also a better talent!!

  2. I didn’t really enjoy the compilations that were made of him which isn’t me saying he’s not a good player, it’s me saying he’s from an English club and has all the hype that comes with English football hence the price tag. I’m still wondering how Napoli got that Georgian boy for 10m.

    1. I’m really not enjoying this summer transfer window at all. You dont even know what’s Chelsea intent unlike the Mr. Abramovich era

  3. Well that didn’t last long and explains why M&M have not abandoned pursuit of Sanches. We should up the offer to 4M-4.5Mseason and try and get the deal over the line now that Carney option (although unrealistic one at that) is gone.

  4. He may be a prospect, but we need d real deal for our midfield now, not a kid. Serie a is more competitive, n I don’t see him filling that whole that was left by Kessie’s departure. More so, I didn’t even see Milan splashing out that kind of money on a player we have to wait years for to mature
