Tuttosport: Barcelona man a new target for Milan – the obstacles

By Oliver Fisher -

There continues to be a lot of speculation suggesting that AC Milan will intervene during the January transfer window, and a new name for the defence has emerged.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) have given their take on the story launched by Mundo Deportivo yesterday as they claimed that Clement Lenglet is a new candidate for the defence.

The Frenchman is on loan at Aston Villa from Barcelona but he has only played in the Conference League. Milan could try take advantage of this, but first of all the Villains must have a replacement in hand before they consider terminating the loan early.

Then the player would formally have to return to Barcelona before being sent back out on loan to Milan, and the main issue is linked to the payment of his salary. Lenglet receives €6m net per season which is currently 75% paid by Villa, but Milan have no intention of paying such a high percentage.

The name of Matteo Gabbia is also possible as a repair solution. He could be recalled from his loan at Villarreal where he continues to get playing time, and he is fine after being stretchered off in midweek following being knocked unconscious.
