Tuttosport: Cairo sends message to Milan and other clubs over Buongiorno

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will once again have to break down the resistance of Torino president Urbano Cairo if they are to land Alessandro Buongiorno this summer, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via Calciomercato.com) recalls how Cairo reassured fans that Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Juventus will not be Buongiorno’s last derby in a Torino shirt.

A simple ‘no… no…’ was the response when asked about the idea, and the Granata want to keep him to further their European dreams.

It is a message that Cairo also sent indirectly to the market because a lot of different clubs from Italy and around Europa are tempted by the idea of making a move for Buongiorno.

Atletico Madrid are the interested active foreign club while in Serie A both Milan and Inter have been chasing the Italian for some time as well as Juventus, a club that Buongiorno would reject out of principle given his attachment to Il Toro.

The captain is not totally untransferable even despite what Cairo said, but what is clear is that it will take an offer potentially above his true market valuation to make Torino consider selling him, given his importance to the side and the bond he holds with the club.

  1. Cairo is so full of sh*t. Despite his talk of big sales they never make any ( top sale was Bremer) and they never and i mean never get into eu cups. He can keep Buongiorno and let him enjoy fighting for 8-13 spot on the table, season after season

    1. I agree, also if Buongiorno wants to leave, he will do so. No one wants an unhappy player and it rarely works in favor of the team to retain someone at all cost. So if the moment is right for him and the club gets good offers…

There is no such thing as a true market price in football, only speculations, and as usual for any business, you sell your assets on a premium. The only exceptions are cases like Jovic, where the team prefers to cut ties for free, even though the player’s rights (potential transfer fee) are worth more than the salary savings.

    1. And they would do that because of…? Genuinely asking, because there might be a story behind that I am not aware of.

  2. So another Belotti then. A player who will ruin his career in Torino. How much did Torino get for Belotti in the end ? Just move on its not worth it to waste your time with Torino’s stupid owner. There are a lot of other good CBs.

    1. hahaha i always remember Belotti too. He was ok in his moment but 100M was crazy. I remember we were very close. we dodged a bullet there

  3. He destroys his players careers and dreams. He need to let them go when they in their prime but instead he let them rotten and releases them when they have no chance to make transfer to a big club

  4. Keep unhappy player only ruin squad. 30m euro + colombo or pobega already max offer for torino . Just skip if cairo want more than that, cairo will repeat belotti case
