Tuttosport: The five key criteria Milan are looking for in next head coach

AC Milan’s hunt for a new coach promises to be intense and complex, with a whole host of names being linked in recent weeks and little to separate them all.

Stefano Pioli has not been removed from his role as of yet but given the lack of a title challenge and the poor showing in European competitions, it is hard to picture Milan keeping him for the final year of his contract.

According to Tuttosport (via Calciomercato.com), there are five main criteria that a new coach will need for Milan, and that is how they will narrow down the search.

Names like Paulo Fonseca, Sergio Conceicao, Julen Lopetegui, Thiago Motta, Domenico Tedesco, Maurizio Sarri and more have been linked with the job, all with their own characteristics and styles to consider.

The report claims that the five criteria are as follows:

  • They must bring back enthusiasm and have new tactical ideas
  • They must be a technician who also stands as a leader
  • The coach must reduce the number of injuries in the squad
  • They have to be able to manage across multiple tournaments
  • Someone who respects the communication aspect of the club

Fans would certainly like the new coach to bring a more entertaining style of football.

    1. They have to officially sack the current one first. Sigh. He is so obviously moving on. The club no longer makes any statements to confirm he will be the ongoing coach.
Wish they’d get that part out of the way so they can publicly acknowledge they are actually searching of a new coach.

  1. Where’s “winning”? Isn’t that what Cardinale preaches about all the time? He sure is awful at PR. Should hire some experts there first.

    1. I actually think he should come out and state what next seasons objectives are..I.E win the title, last 4 of CL..no wishy washy ‘we want to win’ which could be in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years….

I want a coach who will make inter fans think ‘oh f@ck’

Ideally a winner like Nagelsman, Flick, Tuchel…Gallardo excited as he’s won in a huge club and gets the big club mentality and rivalry. If not a winner then someone exciting and up and coming like Motta or De Zerbi. If we can’t get the big thing let’s go for the next big thing….far too many damp squibs being linked for me….

      1. You are on point mate. If we cant get a top coach like Flick, Nagelsman etc than at least some promising coach as Motta or De Zerbi. And state the season goal for sure not some generic bs like “we want to win.”

        1. I wouldn’t be unhappy with his appointment. I’d still prefer a proven winner (Tuchel, Flick or Nagelsman) but he’d excite

  2. You can see how the last criteria poisons everything.

    They want a yes man.

How many great coaches are yes men? Are they all mad b@stards at the end of the day?
