Tuttosport: Fonseca will ‘look for new ideas to save himself’ during the break

Training gets back underway at Milanello today after a two-day period of rest following the defeat against Fiorentina, and a crucial period awaits Paulo Fonseca.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes, the training ground is almost deserted considering the many players busy with their respective national teams, but Fonseca will ‘look for new ideas to save himself’.

Even though the club’s leaders reiterated their trust in him already immediately after the match against Fiorentina, the next matches will be very important not only for the Serie A and Champions League standings, but also for the solidity of the Portuguese’s position.

The paper adds that the international break will help Fonseca not only in looking for new tactical solutions, but also to completely change his character and perhaps take a more firm stance with the squad, thanks to the support of the club.

In Florence the incidents relating to the penalty debacle did not go unnoticed, with Theo Hernandez, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham having shown ‘a lack of respect’ not only towards Christian Pulisic (who should have taken both penalties), but also towards Fonseca after what he had said in the dressing room.

It is now up to Fonseca to show that he has a grip on the situation and that he can unite everyone and get the ship back on track. Otherwise, with more controversial incidents and without an upturn in results, his position may become under threat.

  1. Our problem is we need two solid attacking midfield thank God that we discover our problem in defence is tomori he his not a defender at all he has Acmilan uncountable mistakes that lead to goals and we lost the match.

  2. Time to implement a 3-5-2:

    Mike
    Gabbia-Tomori-Pavalovic
    Fofana-Reijenders
    Chuku-pulisic-Okafor
    Abraham-Morata (or Leao)

    1. This team is clearly not suited for a 3-5-2 formation.

A 4-3-3 would be a much better fit considering the team’s lack of depth in attack and midfield. Playing Tammy and Morata leaves us with Jovic and Okafor as cover, with Okafor not being an ideal striker but rather a winger.

In the midfield, RLC and Reindeer should be deployed as box-to-box players. With consistency, they can excel in this role and provide solid defensive cover.

It’s evident that the coach has no choice but to try this formation.

      1. We lack a key figure for effective 433 and that’s a DM. And no, Fofana is not one.

343 with this crop of players.

  3. The problems of this team are two: Fonseca and Ibra. They both need to go. Players do not respect Fonseca and never will and Ibra has been acting like a buffoon.

    1. Players don’t respect their boss? Sounds like pros. You mean the players who play kindergarten stuff every week and wrestle for who gets to shoot the penalty. Oh yeah, the players really have earned EVERYONE’s respect alright. They all should be appointed to the Milan Hall of Fame already. The best of the best. Legends.

  4. 7 games into the season and you have to try new ideas…..twice already? Also, can someone explain what our regular idea is Lol 😅
