Tuttosport: Milan alarmed by salary request of Romagnoli – a €45m sale cannot be excluded

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have begun to think about the renewal of captain Alessio Romagnoli but have been left scared by his demands, a report claims.

The Rossoneri management are trying to be proactive regarding players who are on deals expiring in 2022 and avoid a repeat of the situation they are currently facing with Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu, with both in the last six months of their contracts with no signs of a signature being imminent.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Romagnoli is a player that Milan want to keep but the defender has requested a pay rise from €3.5m net per season to €5m through his agent Mino Raiola.

While club sources have refused to confirm that this is the request, it would mean that the management would have to make a considerable economic effort to try and agree terms. In case of no agreement, Milan could put the player on the market, but they value him at no less than €45million at the moment.

  1. Well i doubt this holds up to any truth besides of the fact that milan propably would like to pay as little as possible as im pretty sure milan would actually lose out more money by not renewing his contract. The reason why that is are that when milan bought him from Roma we paid 25 mil and had an additional 33% resale clause price that exceeds his initial price paid by milan going back to the romans if we were to sell him. That means if we then sell him for 45 mil it would mean that we would pay a third of of 20 mil which equals around 6.6 mil to the romans. Therefore if romagnoli signs a contract at 5 mil a year it would mean he would just earn 1.5 mil more a year and if we were to sell him we would have to go out on the market and buy a deffender that is of atleast same quality or better and they doesnt come cheap either in transfer fees or wages. Add to that romagnoli is an italy international and a top european defender and even our captain and is only close to turning 26. We would only earn around 14 mil on that sale which frankly would be a horrible deal for us so in the end he will sign a new contract for us but propably somewhere between 4 and 5 mil euros a year.

    1. I believe that the Milan management have done their own hypothesis of the deal. Frankly speaking, these players deserve a better pay rise seeing their growth and performance during this time. 1.5m is not too much for our captain. Please Milan management take the wise decision.

      1. Yeah i agree and i for one wouldnt be too worried about him not getting a new contract as anything else wouldnt make the slightest sense. When that is said we should get it done before the summer.
