Both AC Milan and Inter are both still keen on signing FC Porto striker Mehdi Taremi but moves are only being planned for the summer transfer window in 2024, a report claims.
As has been reported by Tuttosport (via Pianeta Milan), the Iranian centre forward who so nearly joined Milan this summer is still a serious target for both of the Milan sides.
Whilst he could certainly be of use to both sides if the move was made in January, there are a couple of key reasons as to why that is very unlikely to happen.
Should Porto make it into the round of 16 of the Champions League, they will almost certainly not allow him to leave the club as they will want him for the whole season. They are currently second in their group with a three-point lead over third place.
His contract is up at the end of the season which means he can leave for free, but crucially, he would be able to get a Portuguese passport from July 1 which would then make him an EU citizen, meaning he would not take up a non-EU slot when being registered for either Inter or Milan.
The issue is we lacked goals that we needed in the congested fixtures at the beginning of the season.
The money we saved by not buying him will cost us if we can’t advance in the CL. Given our lack of scoring last year and this year in Europe, we went for cheap bargains with injury histories in the middle, upfront as well, those injuries are kicking us in the backside.
We kept Krunic instead of getting Dominguez, you can’t tell me he has been better for us against PSG and Inter than the other would have been, who is more useful short term as well as long term.
All these poor decisions are culminating into what we are seing. We are good enough domestically against lesser teams not against teams close to us and we are being blown out, outclassed by better ones. Anyone could see it coming because they chose to play cheapskate.
Now we haven’t scored in any CL games, teams willing to sell to us in January will charge the same price if not more as we would have in summer because they can see our results, we have to sign scorers. We are in a poorer negotiation position. The teams have more to loose in January by selling their scorers than keeping them aince they can’t be replaced. So it isn’t viable to cash in now if it means they can’t hit their targets this year.
