Tuttosport: Milan interested in move for €20m-rated Netherlands U21 captain

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are interested in making a summer move for AZ Alkmaar captain Teun Koopmeiners, according to a report.

Milan will focus a lot on the midfield during the summer market as it is perhaps the weakest area of the current squad. Lucas Biglia and Giacomo Bonaventura will leave when their contracts expire, while there are doubts over the futures of Franck Kessie and Hakan Calhanoglu too.

As a result, the Rossoneri have been linked with a number of different targets to help bolster the options available in the middle of the park for next season, with Sandro Tonali, Dominik Szoboszlai and Samuele Ricci among those linked.

However, Sunday’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports that Milan are on the trail of Teun Koopmeiners.

The 22-year-old is already the captain of the Eredivisie side and has 16 goals and three assists in 42 appearances across the league, cup and Europa League this season as a holding midfielder.

He also has an average rating of well over comfortably over 7 in all competitions (via WhoScored) and is almost certain to become a future Netherlands international.

The paper claims that competition is hot though, and that it could take around €20million to get a deal done with AZ.
