Tuttosport: ‘Milan’s mercato is closed’ – the plan to replace Bennacer internally

The news that Ismael Bennacer has suffered a serious injury was obviously not well received, but the AC Milan management are not planning any further transfer moves as per a report.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes that ‘Milan’s mercato is closed’. It is an obvious phrase to say on September 10, almost two weeks after the actual closure of the window, but with links to some free agents doing the rounds it still applies.

Bennacer’s injury – one which might keep him out for three months – brought about suggestions that the management could try again for Adrien Rabiot, the former Juventus midfielder who is still without a team.

However, the demands of the Frenchman and his mother-agent are too high for everyone at present, especially Milan who have an eye on their wage structure. It wouldn’t make sense to sign him now, especially since the 29-year-old could not be included in the Champions League squad list.

Among the other names on the list of free agents, there is no one worth going for in the eyes of the directors and for this reason the solution to cover for the Algerian’s long absence will come from internal options.

Opportunities could come for Kevin Zeroli who is the captain of Milan Futuro. In the Primavera he often and willingly played in the position of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, where he performs best, but during the summer he has been used a bit further back.

The other option is Silvano Vos, who played 45 minutes against Carpi for the Futuro and showed everyone that he is too good for that level. He might tempt Paulo Fonseca but will only be available in Serie A because he was not registered on the UCL list.
