AC Milan must regain their defensive solidity if they are to keep up their momentum after the international break, a report claims.
As Wednesday’s edition of Tuttosport reports (via MilanNews), from March onwards the Rossoneri showed that they can be incredibly resilient in front of goal and that carried on into the early season with clean sheets in the league against Bologna, Crotone and Spezia, then only one goal conceded in the derby.
However, since the game against Roma something has changed. Against the Giallorossi, Milan conceded three goals and all three arrived from dead ball situations (a penalty and two corners). The same thing happened in the matches against Udinese (a penalty) and Hellas Verona (two set pieces), demonstrating that the team has suffered a drop in focus.
Stefano Pioli’s priority in the coming weeks will therefore be to regain that defensive solidity that was the basis of the Rossoneri’s resurgence post-lockdown.
Of course it is not possible to expect a clean sheet in every single game, but the levels have dropped particularly from set pieces and therefore work on the training ground must commence to rid Milan of these defects.
