Tuttosport: Milan want to replicate Tomori coup by signing his friend from Chelsea

By Oliver Fisher -

Trevoh Chalobah appears to be outside of Chelsea’s plans and AC Milan are plotting a move that would see him reunite with his friend, a report claims.

The injuries to Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori have left Milan in need of a defensive reinforcement but it looks like the first choice target Alessandro Buongiorno will not be arriving.

According to Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera), Chalobah could get on a flight from west London to Italy just like his friend Tomori did almost exactly three years ago.

He could join the Rossoneri through a very similar operation to the one that his compatriot did in the words of the newspaper.

“Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea did not find space in Mauricio Pochettino’s choices and the Via Aldo Rossi club are evaluating whether or not to do a Tomori-style operation, i.e. a paid loan with a high option to buy to be exercised in the summer when, in all likelihood, Simon Kjaer will say goodbye to Milan when his contract expires,” they report.

Born in Sierra Leone but raised in England, Milan’s latest target for the defence came through the Chelsea youth ranks, He was on loan at Ipswich in 2018-19, then Huddersfield the season after and FC Lorient in 2020-21.

With Chelsea he made his debut in the 2021-22 season in the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal, playing 120 minutes as a central defender and lifting the first trophy of his career.

Three days later, Chalobah fulfilled his dream by becoming debut as a starter in the Premier League and goal scored at Stamford Bridge against Crystal Palace.

The centre-back closed the 2021-22 season under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel with 31 appearances for 2335 minutes in total, amassing four goals and one assist.

Last season Chalobah played but struggled to find consistency given he was asked to play right-back a lot. He made 34 appearances in total but with fewer minutes than the previous season (2289).

The 24-year-old was very close to leaving the club last summer because Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t consider him a big part of his plans, then a bad thigh injury kept him out for 26 games and he has just come back.
