Tuttosport: Motta remains ‘Plan A’ for Milan but Conceicao idea is gaining momentum

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are currently evaluating who they would like to be their head coach ahead of next season, and Thiago Motta’s name remains in the running.

As this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) reports, the favourite for the management is Motta given the excellent work that he has done with Bologna and the fact he ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to the mould of manager they want to hire.

Milan have studied Motta’s work throughout the season but they must make up ground on Juventus, who are currently in pole position for the Italian-Brazilian coach if they decided to sack Massimiliano Allegri.

Motta, therefore, is Milan’s ‘plan A’ for the job of new coach, although it is a difficult path. The Plan B is Sérgio Conceição of Porto, an idea that is gaining a lot of momentum.

The Portuguese precedes Paulo Fonseca (Lille), Mark van Bommel (Antwerp) and Rúben Amorim (Sporting CP) on the list of preferences. Conceição could leave Porto because the renewal he signed the other day was only valid in the event Pinto da Costa remained the president.

Andre Villas Boas is now the president of Porto and he will not stand in the way of Conceição if he pushes to leave. He is a young coach, but with experience and a clear style of play, plus he has been put forward by agent Jorge Mendes who has excellent relations with the Diavolo.

  1. I don‘t get why Juve would sack Allegri, he has sat out all their scandals, kept them relevant and with the right squad he can produce serial champions.

    1. Allegri is not a good coach man. He has no brand of football and got so lucky with the squad quality with each team he won the Scudetto with. He’s also very expensive and the fans don’t seem overly thrilled by him. Juve are in the top 2 in Serie a for wage bills and they certainly don’t play like it, just play each game to win 1-0, something that was always gonna fall apart eventually as we’ve seen with their form

      1. You cannot seriously claim a coach with 6 Scudetti is a bad coach.

Also since when does Juve care if the fans like the football?

Also I don‘t know about your opinion on conceicao but defensive coach seems to be a negative with Allegri and a positive with Conceicao for many.

        1. Those teams that Allegri won 6 scudetti with could have won those scudetti even without a coach.
How has Allegri looked at Juventus when he doesn’t have by far the best squad in the league? Barely qualifying for UCL and playing the worst football possible

          1. S Inzaghi had the best team for the past 4 seasons and he only got 1 Scudetto, even Ancelotti won 1 Scudetto with a legendary Milan team.

With the legal trouble they are in they could have done way worse without Allegri stabilising them. He also got us into CL in his 3rd season with a severely weakened squad.

        2. Allegri is a bit of a tricky case. He is without questions the most successfull Italian coach of this last decade, but he always seems unconvincing wether it with Milan or Juve, there seems to be a threshold he cannot make.
And to agree a bit with 🔴⚫️ , Juve between 2014 and 2018 was one of the strongest teams in the world and playing in a very weak serie A.

          1. At least with Milan he did a lot in his spell, without the Scudetto and the many CL games against prime Barcelona (were we held them to a draw a couple of times and beat them once with the likes of Constant, Muntari and Pazzini starting) our relevancy would have dropped much sooner.

This singlehandedly limited the damage of the banter era a lot by shortening it.

          2. Yeah that win against Barca save the season because we were able to qualify for Champions League based on that game. Next season however is the start of banter era.

    2. LMAO!!! Have you seen Juve play? Negative Football 150% of the time. Granted he has the least talented Juve, pretty much ever, and he over performed with them initially.

    3. Dude, you cannot be serious… Anyone can not lose if they just block of the goal to prevent conceding goals and fight a 1-0 win… Allegri’s mentality isn’t to win, it’s to be stable and not lose, but that will only get you so far, you don’t win titles by sitting deep, that’s why he doesn’t have any silverware since returning….it’s a detrimental style of play that destroys player’s talents I mean Vlahovic was more serial in Fiorentina than in juve, Chiesa was more deadly under Pirlo than he was under your amazing coach, granted he doesn’t have a strong side, how come other coaches like Motta are doing far better with what they have. IMO he’s everything wrong with Serie A, Serie A needs an injection of young evolved and tactically gifted coaches in order get back some competition, Serie A has become a joke and that’s largely due to the coaches…if you take a sample of the top 4 teams in Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga and EPL, those in serie A currently have arguably the weakest coaches around, and say what you will, but I think player for player juve has stronger players than alot of teams

  2. Inzaghi has been at inter for only 3 years.
Ancelotti had a legendary Milan team for about 3,4 years. They won 1 scudetto and lost the others to a team that was almost as good as them plus cheating. After Sheva was sold that wasn’t a legendary team anymore. The UCL in 2007 was the last thing they did and that was because of an unbelievable Kaka season.
Juventus had no legal problems this year, they didn’t play in Europe and still were trash.
