Tuttosport: Pioli spoilt for choice by Ibrahimovic’s musketeers – nine players for three spots

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is spoilt for choice when he looks down his squad list and sees the players capable of playing in the trident behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

As Sunday’s edition of Tuttosport reports (via MilanNews), Ibrahimovic is heart of the Rossoneri’s attack and everything seems to pass through him, but those who feed him are of paramount importance.

In terms of the favoured trio at the moment, it is Alexis Saelemaekers, Hakan Calhanoglu and Ante Rebic from right to left that Pioli would choose, but he has six alternatives including two in each position.

The head-to-head on the right lane is between Castillejo and Saelemaekers, while on the left the choice is more difficult. There are Rafael Leao, Brahim Diaz and Alexis Saelemaekers who can also play on the left if needed, plus Daniel Maldini and of course Jens Petter Hauge.

Down the middle Calhanoglu is seen as immovable, but Brahim Diaz seems intent on pushing him all the way for that starting spot, while Rade Krunic has done well in that exact position too for the national team especially.

In short, Pioli is safe in the knowledge that while in other areas such as defence he does not have many rotation options, the attack is bolstered by good numbers and high quality.
