PM: Uncertainty at Spurs could aid Milan in pursuit of on-loan Juventus winger

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s interest in winger Dejan Kulusevski does not seem to have gone away and there could be an opportunity this summer, a report claims.

PianetaMilan recall how Milan tried to get Kulusevski in the 2022 January transfer window but he ended up moving to Spurs, where he found Fabio Paratici – who was at Juventus before – and then head coach Antonio Conte.

The situation has now changed though as Paratici is suspended and Conte has left, so it is not certain that Spurs will turn Kulusevski’s loan from Juve into a permanent deal. The loan with option will become a €35m obligation to buy if two conditions are met.

The first is that the player takes the field in at least 50% of Premier League matches this season for at least 45 minutes per match. This is a condition that Kulusevski meets as he has already amassed 23 games, with 2 goals and 6 assists with 1,730 minutes total playing time.

The second, however, is that Tottenham qualify for the next edition of the Champions League. This too is possible but Spurs are three points behind Newcastle United and Manchester United but with games in hand, so it is not certain.

Conte’s farewell, Paratici’s absence (the man who wanted him in London) and an uncertain fate for the team could effectively bring Kulusevski back to Juventus. Then, Milan would try again and could get him for less than €35m given Juve’s desire to monetise and the fact his deal expires in June 2024.

  1. He’d be good, naturally creative and comfortable on RW. Plus we know he’s serie A quality, less of a risk than signing players from other leagues.

If Real play hardball with Brahim, Kulu would be a solid alternative. The issue is I think spurs will sign him, even if they fail to make top 4. He’s shown enough promise as one of their few creative players and is somewhat of a crowd favorite.

On the other hand if he returns to Juve… what are the chances they choose to keep him, would he want to stay in Turin?

    1. Your final point is probably going to be the most relevant. Di Maria has had a great season, but he’s 35 and is on a one year contract, so they’re not committed long term and they’ll have a hole to fill at RW. I think it’s less likely he stays if they don’t qualify for the CL, but they probably will when they get their 15 points back or win the EL. Barring that, there is no reason for him to refuse the renewal.

  2. He won’t want to go back to Juve. He was treated like garbage there. He has clearly shown in Tottenham that he is a great player. He is very mich like Brahim in the sense that he can recieve and keep the ball. His point production has been a bit week lately though. If he comes to Milan the point production needs to improve. Barring that I think he would be perfect for Milans playing style. His time in Parma running like a train on that right side was a sight to see!
