Vicenza goalkeeper reveals desire to return to Milan and ‘play in the Champions League’

Sebastiano Desplanches has revealed that his desire is to one day move back to AC Milan and achieve his dream of playing in the Champions League.

Desplanches joined Milan’s youth sector in January 2014 from city rivals Inter, making his way through the U17 and U19 sides before deciding to leave last summer to join Vicenza.

He spent the 2022-23 season on loan at AC Trento who play in Serie C, and now the 20-year-old has begun the mission to get back into the top flight of Italian football.

Desplanches spoke to Il Quotidiano to reflect on the loan spell he has just had at Trento and also look ahead to what the future might hold for him, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I’d like to aim to return, perhaps, to Milan and be able to have the opportunity to play in the Champions League,” he said.

Desplanches has already worked under Gianluigi Donnarumma – now at Paris Saint-Germain – and Mike Maignan before his move to Vicenza.

“Donnarumma and Maignan are two fantastic guys, with a great dedication. With Donnarumma, then, I have a particularly close bond. They both like to laugh and joke. He often gave me advice that today, I can say, is coming in handy for me,” he added.

“If I have to mention another one, from a goalkeeper who inspired from an early age, I have to mention the name of Julio Cesar.”
