Journalist Antonio Vitiello believes that AC Milan must try and convince Antonio Conte to join in the summer, in order to carry out a rebuild.
Milan’s latest result – a 2-2 draw against Fiorentina – means that any chances of getting into the Champions League or even the Europa League are now slim, given the nine-point gap to fourth place.

It looked as though the Rossoneri had chosen their sporting director to begin a summer revolution, but a collapse in the negotiations with Fabio Paratici means the management have gone back to the drawing board.
Igli Tare is reportedly the man in pole position at the moment to begin the rebuild, but CEO Giorgio Furlani and the rest of the leadership cannot rush things as they know it is a choice that guides the course for the future.
Vitiello spoke in his weekly column for MilanNews about the current state of affairs at Milan, and he made his feelings known regarding the head coach that should be pursued.
“Unfortunately, the damage is huge, in addition to the 60 million less in revenue for the failure to qualify for the next Champions League, Milan will have to rebuild half the team. There is a huge job to do but it must be entrusted to someone with experience in the sector,” he said.
“First, we need to identify a capable sports director, but above all, we need to start again from a certainty on the bench. The right name is Antonio Conte, give him the keys to Milanello and let him work in peace. The results will come.
“Let’s start again from a pragmatic coach like Conte, and secondly Allegri, but not from bets. A strong and winning coach, who knows how to revitalise the players.
“On the other hand, the question we ask ourselves is this: who can benefit from a Milan in this state? No one. The fans are fed up, the results are not coming, the sponsors could change air in the long run, the players too. The U-turn is urgent and mandatory.
“It has been shown that choosing the wrong coach can be more dramatic than you might think. First Lopetegui, fortunately foiled at the last minute, then Fonseca and finally Conceição, were huge gambles.
“Milan at the moment are a meat grinder, a toxic environment, we need to start again from certainties, both on the bench and behind the desk.”
