AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has been fully justified in his decision to start Christian Pulisic in the attacking trident during the first two games of the season.
As Antonio Vitiello writes in his latest column for MilanNews, the first two games of the new Serie A campaign have shown that the Rossoneri ‘have signed a super player’, with Pulisic scoring in each game so far.
Few players have managed to score two goals in their first two appearances for the Rossoneri, but Pulisic joins that elite company including Bierhoff, Shevchenko, Balotelli and Menez.
The USA international was signed for €20m and the Milan leadership believe this fee will turn out to be a bargain considering his age, potential and quality.
Back in 2019 Chelsea invested €64m to buy him from Borussia Dortmund but he never truly established the leading role that the London club thought he would due to a combination of factors.
Pulisic is ‘not just a marketing operation’ because he is also a ‘really strong player that Milan strongly wanted’ due to his ‘qyality and tactical intelligence’. He has learned Pioli’s schemes and has hit the ground running.
So many players have flopped at Chelsea and then gone on to have great success AFTER leaving Chelsea. It’s really the club culture of constantly buying new talent every year regardless of need.
Kevin de Bruyne, Salah, even the young Lukaku, are just a few of those who went through the Chelsea meat grinder before finding success elsewhere
“Meat grinder” is such an apt description for that club as of late.
I said it from jump, he was going to be the best signing. Chelsea didn’t utilize him properly and he was injured.
You need to optimize a player’s capabilities by putting them in the proper roles where they flourished.
Selling players before exhausting all options is not recommended with young supremely talented players.
Chelsea buy to fix problems instead of addressing then
He wasnt that bad at Chelsea, he was getting injured all the time. Dont be suppriced if the same thing happens here. He hasnt played a full season in like 4-5 years. He is a very injury prone player.
Ps. Maybe if Pioli can rotate him more often he will stay fit.
Can we say the same about CDK?
Hopefully he will get another chance with Milan
People get a label and then commenters and morons in media use the label forever. It’s been quite a while since Pulisic has been injured. His stint with the national team was pretty brutal and more importantly, many of the injuries were NOT his fault and due to vicious tackles. At this point it’s unfair and incorrect to keep giving him that label.
He gets injured because of the way he plays, not because he’s especially injury prone. In Chelsea’s run to the Champions League title a few years back Porto fouled him 11 times in a quarterfinal match. Further, they don’t win the semi against Real without his play. His quality, his desire to win was evident in the USA’s group game against Iran where they needed a goal to win, and he gave up his body to score one (and immediately was taken to the hospital). He’s going to do well here at Milan because of the mutual respect and belief that’s being shown in him.
It’s a little early for this. I read somewhere that he rarely played three games in a row. Pulisic has been fantastic so far, if he can stay fit, he’s a bargain. Many of Chelsea’s player often get injured, it could be their medical staff. We shall see.
