When can Milan fans get excited about around the top of Serie A

Few AC Milan fans probably thought that the team would be fighting for the Scudetto during the past few months. Now, though, there is a chance.

There are 33 games of the Serie A season left to play, so we cannot get carried away just yet. However, there is a lot to be excited for, considering how Massimiliano Allegri’s team have started the 2025/26 season.

Season so far

An opening day defeat certainly had nerves going, with Milan looking poor on the pitch and struggling without the support of the Curva Sud. Since then, though, they have won every game in the league, beating Lecce, Bologna, Udinese and Napoli.

To partner this, they won three of those games with clean sheets, whilst conceding a penalty against the reigning champions. So, it is not really a surprise that they sit at the top of the Serie A table on goal difference, even if it is only by a single goal.

Performance-wise, the Rossoneri look much better than they ever really did last season. There are clear ideas on the pitch, and the Allegri identity has already been seen in bucket loads. Additionally, a feeling of optimism is slowly returning.

Players impress

Then, you have to take a look at the personnel. After all, without them, who knows where the Diaovolo would be at this point? The player of the season so far has to be Christian Pulisic, who has been nominated for the Serie A September Player of the Month Award.

In five games, Captain America has bagged four goals, with another two assists coming. From that record, he was involved in both goals to beat Napoli. Fitting, really.

Credit has to be given to the midfield, where Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot have been absolutely phenomenal in the centre of the park, bringing new (even if they are veterans) life to the middle. How can we forget Alexis Saelemaekers, too?

At the back, the whole unit, which has now gotten some order, looks fantastic, and each part looks comfortable alongside one another. A rarity last season, but a huge thing to be impressed by already.

Then, you have Rafael Leao and Ardon Jashari to come into this team, alongside others. Maybe Milan will be sitting at the top for a while with these players to come in. Only time will tell.
