Gerry Cardinale gave the green light to sign Goncalo Ramos, becoming a record signing for AC Milan and perhaps the biggest in recent years.

Making a big-money signing is always a risk, especially for a club in Serie A like Milan. However, they acted quickly and efficiently, securing one of the biggest deals of the summer.

Cardinale’s reasoning

As Corriere dello Sport writes, the Portuguese striker is the most expensive player in the club’s history, blowing his compatriot Rafael Leao’s arrival fee out of the water by around €25 million.

For Cardinale, it is a purchase that makes sense for multiple reasons. Firstly, it is a potentially perfect fit for Ruben Amorim and his system. As well, it was a specific request from the manager and after the events of his hiring, it was needed to get him back secured.

A present, almost.

For personal reasons, too, the deal allows Cardinale to prove a few things. Firstly, that he is willing to put his hands into his pockets and make large investments and also that he wants the best for this club by backing the manager.

Ultimately, he has been criticised substantially recently and with it being Amorim’s request, all he can do is back the manager. Whatever happens, that is not a negative.

  1. …Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. All we can do is acknowledge the owner’s effort in supporting the coach and hope these signings work out for the best of the team…

  2. Corriere Dello Sport understands Gerry’s reasoning and plan, huh? Hilarious…. Italian Media is such a joke. Where was this publication the last 4 years to help us understand what Gerry’s plan was? LOL!!!
