As Daniele Longo states on his X account, the Belgian club are ‘close to rejecting’ the bid, as it is not enough. Instead, they are hoping for an offer of €35m with ‘many bonuses’ to take the deal past the €40m mark.
Suggestions from a Belgium outlet earlier today stated similar, that a fixed fee of €35m plus bonuses could be enough to close negotiations, especially with the midfielder prioritising a move to San Siro over other options.
Whether the Diavolo will make another bid remains to be seen. However, with multiple options on the table, other ideas may be evaluated with the price only rising.

I don’t think West Ham are serious about Musah. We should have taken whatever Napoli offered. Musah is the biggest dud in the squad. All the other signings have had their moments.
I think we ought to start calling this for what it is, and that’s not related to objective assessment of the merit of the signing. It is something else, which is cynical – to put it kindly.
Why has Milan not really bought any players from the Italy since Maldini left? I cannot help but wonder whether it relates to the additional scrutiny applied to financial transactions which don’t leave the country. How many times are they going to make the same mistake before we stop assuming that it is incompetence?
Look who was at the heart of Milan when it was actually good: Kessie (Atalanta – €32m), Tonali (Brescia – €14m), Bennacer (Empoli – €17m) and Krunic (Empoli – €8m).
That said, we know Croatian players are very compatible with Italy and yet it is Inter who is signing Sucic for less than half of what this guys costs. Does anyone seriously think Sucic won’t be the better player? Or is it that the arrangements with Croat managers and clubs not as profitable?
I get that good players start in Belgium, that’s not in dispute. But there is a philosophical, tactical and physical gulf between Belgium and Serie A. Milan has the most dysfunctional midfield in the top half of the table and instead of taking on players who know the league, and who have proven that they can perform, they’re punting on unknown quantities from incompatible leagues again.
This isn’t even about signing Italian players, just as it wasn’t for Maldini. There is Ilic from Torino or Sohm / Bernabe / Keita from Parma who are all good players. Frendrup at Genoa is a really good player. Adli is the best CM on Milan’s books since Tonali who no one is prepared to take seriously for some unknown reason. Yes, then there is Ricci, Rovella (though you don’t really want to negotiate with Lazio) or you could take a more long term view and sign Prati from Cagliari as someone to learn from Modric.
But the focus is always anywhere but the league in which Milan competes in order to qualify to play in Europe.
I sure hope these bozos/crooks have actually watched Jashari play because they clearly hadn’t watch Giminez play when they decided to waste €32m on a marginal upgrade of Jovic.
