Ordine: Why Milan have a ‘financial interest’ to agree Maignan’s renewal

A lot can be said about the situation between AC Milan and Mike Maignan, and a lot has been said. Despite this, we are no closer to a solution.

With every passing week, the decision to not renew Maignan’s contract earlier this year looks worse. Hindsight is a gift, and Milan are unfortunate to have it now. However, the writing is not yet on the wall.

Until a new deal is signed, or whilst his contract situation remains the same, he is a Rossonero and there can be hope of him agreeing to stay. Perhaps it is beyond hope at this point, but it is true for now.

Maignan must stay

Ordine spoke to Pressing about the situation and explained why it is so important that Maignan renews, as MilanNews relays.

“There are two schools of thought: one fueled by Maignan’s entourage and one by the relationship between the club, the coach, and the player. Tare said they made a pact.

“I think Milan has every interest, including financial, in keeping Maignan. Also, because if you have to go and get another goalkeeper of his level, you have to spend a significant amount .”

Given that the Rossoneri want a young keeper who is ready for the step up, they will have to spend the big bucks, and without a sale, replacing Maignan becomes a financial burden.

  1. It depends how much does the new keeper want to be paid per season and how much is the fee. I’d bet if compared over 5 years it wouldn’t be such a huge amount. It was the same when Donnarumma left and Maignan was signed, but Donnarumma was asking for much more money.

    1. There aren’t many best goalkeepers in the world and just Money doesn’t bring them.
Take all the big clubs who are struggling with average goalkeepers.
Milan had the best managers to make the choice and there was no pressure at this time on the player.

  2. I would be scared to ask Mike how much he wants these days. If he keeps his form he will get crazy offers in January allready.

  3. He is playing this year for a mega contract probably his last. So the ship has sailed i guess unless we are willing to pay 7+ mil.

      1. It’s also because he have best goalkeeping coach not some random coach and once it was Dida when he has shown that he is best.
