Cesare Casadei of Chelsea

CM: Chelsea midfielder could make switch to Italy – why Milan’s interest has cooled

Cesare Casadei could well be heading for a return back to his home country but it seems as though AC Milan are no longer in the running.

As Daniele Longo writes for Calciomercato.com, the goal for the January transfer window for Chelsea is to thin out the squad and send some players out to get more playing time, and this applies to Casadei.

Chelsea believe a lot in his qualities and are banking on him for the future, but the issue at the moment is that in the 4-2-3-1 system it is Enzo Fernandez and Moisés Caicedo who are practically irreplaceable.

This is why the doors are opening for Casadei, to leave and it is Monza and Lazio that are ready to try land him. The first are offering him a semi-guaranteed starting spot and the possibility of a dry loan until the end of the season. Lazio meanwhile are trying for an option to buy.

The situation is wide open because there are other foreign clubs interested too. Much will also depend on Chelsea and how many spots they will have for loans, so for the two Italian clubs, moving in advance could make the difference.

Milan were linked in the summer and had long evaluated a loan. They spoke with Casadei’s old agent (an intermediary who was part of the Paulo Fonseca negotiations) but now the midfielder has changed representatives.

The agency Epic Sports Italy look after his interests now, but Casaedi is no longer on the list of targets of the Rossoneri for January. Instead, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are looking for a midfielder who can act as an deputy to Youssouf Fofana, so a more defensive profile.

  1. A talented Italian midfielder? No way our management would be interested in that. Maybe after he breaks big and his value is 40M.
Then they gonna offer 18M and a pack of chio chips. The smoll bag that is.
Tho chio is greman so it would be a murican chips. Idk what they have over there

  2. Of course not, why would they. It’s Moncada we’re talking about. And it’s not like we’re in dire need of talented Italians on the team. Better to get another cheap could be foreigner.

    1. He’s not rubbish. Everytime he gets a loan he does very well with very good stats for a player his age.. at 21 and 191cm height he isn’t even close to his peak. Oh and his salary is 250K€ net.

It’s a complete no brainer to buy him.
He’s basically calafiori but for the midfield.

        1. I’ve been on this roller coaster ride before.
You don’t know anything brah. About football players.

If you did, you’d know Casadei would be an improvement on ruben and musah. Probably even benacer since the dude is always injured.

  3. He’s barely been on the pitch in two years. At his age I’m sure that’s hampered his development. He wouldn’t be the type of player that we could just plug and play. Those big EPL clubs are a wasteland of players with squandered opportunity/development for a paycheck.

    1. In the last 2 years he played around 3500 minutes. True in championship but it’s not exactly sitting on a bench.
And speaking about his age. He’s 21. Kid like that, give them 3 months of game time and trust of the coach and they’ll raise their lvl to what you need.

  4. It says a lot about where Casadei’s level is now, when it’s Lazio & Monza bidding for him. If none of the big clubs are after him, perhaps this is a sign the Chelsea have ruined yet another young talent. Who heere has seen him play for the past two years? If he wasn’t Italian nobody would rate him at all…
