Ok; hear me out. Transfers are somewhat smoother when a team is in Europe (CL / EL) with a logical bias for the CL. More money to spend and players prefer to move to teams that qualify and/or are going in the right direction. It’s also easier to manage renewals for the above reasons. With this in mind, it’s best for a Sporting Director to know the scope of work/available funds and quality of competition next season he’s taking on or recruiting for and this can only be done post-season. They shot themselves in the foot by making the search so public and negotiating with candidates in the media’s presence but the logic is sound for now. Just shut up and get on with it for now. However by August not only should they have completed the hire, but we should see enough to know if he is competent or not.
They are paid handsome salaries to have multiple plans of action. Plan A doesn’t work, they should already be making moves to address the issues at hand. This season is a failure. It doesn’t matter where we finish in the table, we need a sporting director to operate as a football club. Everything is done on the fly and at the last minute with these people.
It indicates they have serious flaws in the structure, they are incapable of making timely as well as correct decisions and that is proven by their inability to follow through on the execution of their plans, or to act on contigency ones promptly. There needs to be consequences for the people who made the numerous mistakes.

It wasn’t ready because they were sleeping on the gas pedal in the offices for three years straight.
Maignan and Theo need to be renewed and they need to have a hard look at the depth chart to reinforce the team. Not add by subtraction, which we saw has not worked. Take a risk, make the big renewals and sign the best players we can, no more 15 to 20 million euro transfers with 3 to 4.5 million euros in wages, that won’t cut it. Adjust and sell after if we fall short next year.
