‘What do you think? We have a match against Milan’ – Xabi Alonso spiky in press conference

Xabi Alonso was in no mood for joking about potential celebrations for his side ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s home Champions League game against AC Milan.

Leverkusen might be just a two-hour plane ride from Milan but it will feel like it is on a different planet compared to Friday’s game against Lecce, in terms of their style of play and the quality they have as the Bundesliga champions.

A report thing morning claimed that Paulo Fonseca is already thinking about making a couple of changes to the team in order to keep things fresh after naming an unaltered line-up for the Lecce game after the derby win. Bayer, meanwhile, are also taking it very seriously.

In the pre-match press conference, a journalist asked Xabi Alonso what he would do in the event of a victory against Bayern (the full-time score was 1-1). The coach, however, did not want to joke and recalled the delicate commitment against Milan.

“Would I go to Oktoberfest if we win against Bayern Munich? What do you think? We have a match against Milan on Tuesday. We don’t have time, obviously it’s not in our heads,” he said (via Radio Rossonera).

“We’ll return to training on Sunday morning in Leverkusen to prepare for the next match. We have an important week, a very important one for us.”
