Zaniolo’s agent blames ‘change in management’ for failed move to Milan

By Euan Burns -

The agent of former AS Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo has blamed the change in management for his clients’ possible move to AC Milan not going through earlier this summer.

Speaking during an interview with Radio Sportiva (via Milan News), Claudio Vigorelli was very honest about his clients’ moves, with the Italian set to sign for Premier League side Aston Villa in the coming days.

Zaniolo was heavily linked with a January move to Milan when he burnt his bridges at Roma, but the club would not put the money on the table halfway through the season.

Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara still wanted to sign him from Galatasaray this summer but after they were dismissed from their roles, the move stalled.

Vigorelli confirmed that the change in management upstairs was the reason for that move going away.

“I think only in Maldini’s Milan there were a few chances. Things were going in the right direction but then everything changed in management and things were not reopened,” he said.

“Nicolo would have been happy to stay in Turkey anyway, he was thinking about the Champions League and he was happy. Then Aston Villa came along and we saw how things went.”

  1. Think what you want about the Maldini sacking but one cannot ignore that at least one good thing happened due to that. We dodged a bullet here. 🙂

    1. And? You are forgetting Arnautovic? Who was number 1, in Maldini’s wishlist to deputise Giroud? 🤔 Plus permanent signing of Brahim Díaz? And many more..

  2. If we sign him , we wont get pulisic & romero . Pulisic are better in long shoot & crossing comparing to zaniolo . Not only that zaniolo more expensive than pulisic

    1. Romero came for free.
If we didn’t buy Chuk we could have bought Zaniolo.
Gala paid 15 mil for him we could have signed him for 30 mil maybe(we got Chuk for 20 + 8 bonus).

  3. Why are people sh*tting on Zaniolo for injuries?
    Pulisic has the same issues.
He cored 5 goals in 10-11 matches for Gala last season.
Would have been a much better buy than this Chukwussy guy.

Maldini got at least half of his signings right(CDK was also one of them as Atalanta is demostrating)

Nope. He was the right buy for Atalanta – not for Milan.
