MN: Zaniolo green lights Milan move as stance of both clubs emerges after €20m+ bid

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are serious about signing Nicolo Zaniolo and believe Roma could soften their stance and accept their conditions, a report claims.

According to Anto Vitiello’s column for MilanNews, Zaniolo is a player that gets the approval of the directors because Ricky Massara has known him well since his days at Roma, while for Paolo Maldini he is a player who can raise the quality level in the attacking department.

In fact, Milan already tried last year to sign Zaniolo, but Roma asked for €50m which was too much. The plan of the management was to try again in summer 2023, when Zaniolo’s contract only has a year to run, and they could offer €20m to land him.

However, the player has decided to try and take matters into his own hands by clashing with the Giallorossi, even being left out of the win against Spezia over the weekend. Now Maldini and Massara believe there is an opportunity to be seized and they are trying to understand if there are margins to make it happen this month.

The Roma management would like to sell Zaniolo for €35m, or on loan with an obligation to buy, and Milan would also be willing to accept this formula if the obligation were based on Champions League qualification, but the figure would be €20-22m.

If Roma were to open up to this option, then Milan could move forward towards Zaniolo, who would like to stay in Italy and has already given the green light to the idea of moving to the Diavolo, so much so that they are his preferred destination over England or anywhere else abroad.

Milan are in Rome for the match against Lazio and everything is being discussed. The player does not want to stay with the Giallorossi – a factor that inevitably plays in favour of potential buyers – but it all depends on Roma’s requests and their willingness to resolve this issue in January.

  1. Goal is reporting that we’ve opened talks with Chelsea for Pulisic. Imagine a squad with those players and a stubborn coach who says they have to take at least six months to blend into the team. Would be fun to watch.

  2. Are you kidding me!? Have they seen him play this season? He is mentally and physically not were he was before his injuries. This is a complete waste of money.

    1. Has Cdk’s mentally and physically ever been here for Milan this season? He was surely pretty fine last season. That’s just the thing with football’s transfer market. And what we witness most of the times is that performance can be temporary. But class & quality are permanent. (This applies for both CdK – yes, somehow I still have a residual faith for this kid – and Zaniolo).

  3. Zaniolo is just a rumor. Milan didn’t sent the offer to Roma yet. And Roma is still asking 35 million…

There is bigger possibility that next summer, Milan buy some Chelsea players etc, than bringing Zaniolo in 7 days.

  4. Milan is able to transfer only average players and with this tipe of players will continue to make of fouls în European competitions against the strong teama,

  5. the gap between what Roma are asking and what Milan are proposing seems huge. Fingers crossed, and knock on wood. The future will tell …
