CM: Mission to replace Giroud begins – the name everyone agrees on

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud will say farewell to AC Milan at the end of the season and now the pressure shifts to the management to make sure that his goals are replaced.

Calciomercato.com report that Giroud’s departure to the MLS has been in the air for some time and must be respected given that he is at the age of 37 and he has never hidden the desire to make decisions that he deems are the best for his family.

For months Milan have been plotting who they think should come in to replace Giroud to help carry the baton for the future, and there is one name that stands out above all: Joshua Zirkzee.

Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio have been working on the operation for months, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic has already given his blessing to his possible purchase.

The idea would be to include one or more counterparts (Lorenzo Colombo first and foremost) plus Alexis Saelemaekers who is worth €10m. The competition is wide-ranging, but the Rossoneri believe they can win the race.

Zirkzee ‘represents that Dutch elegance that brings back the glories of the past’ as per the source, but if he were to become unattainable then Benjamin Sesko is the alternative that convinces the most, even if his €50m clause seems high.

Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP awaits a call from Milan: the strong approval of the Swede cannot be enough in the face of a €100m release clause and Sporting will not offer any discounts. This is why to date there has been no direct contact between the two clubs.

Jonathan David of Lille, Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart and Goncalo Ramos of PSG also remain on the list: three profiles who, for different reasons, could be very useful.

  1. I read somewhere that Gyokeres‘s real price will be ~50m and that Newcastle are also keen to sign him. Milan should be able to spend this much IMO

    1. Sporting is still pursuing Lille in the courts for Leao. No way they will give us any special treatment, seeing as we were the ultimate beneficiaries. In fact, they’re probably more than happy to stick it to us here.

      1. It’s business and no feelings involved, especially for us in the big picture of Leao’s case, where we are in no way involved. Sporting don’t rely on Leao’s dispute for their financials, but as any sensible business owners, they will try to get the maximum out of it.

But if theoretically Lille is offering market price for a player and the player wants to move in Lille, be sure that Sporting will sell on the spot, nevermind the litigations.

      2. Actually they should be grateful for Milan to step in and pay ~20M€ for Leao to them even when there was no reasons for it as the dispute involved only Lille & Sporting.

  2. I feel like Zirzkee makes the most sense. Especially now that we’re finally sitting down to extend Jovic permanently, we should get a striker opposite to him. Jovic is an in the box poacher, Zirzkee is the best counter balance, someone with pace and good dribbling ability. Plus he makes sense for our attack built team. He gel good with guys like leao and theo to play off of

    1. Just Imagine attack with zirzkee and jovic for champions league matches lol you must be joking.

I think Santiago Gimenez is the best and most guarntee option after Gyokeres.

Zirzkee can be bought with loan option to buy clause he does good within loan period.

  3. Zirkzee is my choice of a striker if we sign someone, but filling for Giroud… that’s a tall order. Giroud is in a class of his own. I temper my expectations.

  4. Sad to see Giroud go. Heart and soul and consistently produced. would have been ideal to keep him as a backup (save him for UCL games and bigger matches – like we did with Maldini years ago) to a new number 9 like Zirkzee or the like, but I can understand him wanting to try a new adventure at his age. Huge hole to fill. Good luck Oiliver!

  5. Zirkzee is not a striker that will give us 20+ goals every season. If they buy him to play in a “freerole” (10 or secondstriker) then it’s a good buy, but he is not a leathel 9. Koopmeiners, Soule and Gudmundsson has all 10 goals so for this season as Zirkzee and they are all AM/Wingers. Zirkzee har 3 assists in Seria A this season, while Giroud has 8, Leao 7 etc. When we now are sending, spend wisely please.

  6. This 20+ a season goal striker cry is just outdated. Nowadays systems are played where all offensive players contribute to goals. And that’s just what everyone in Milan’s frontline are doing having a record scoring season.

Zirkzee is my choice – he’s strong, fast, technical and already settled in domestic league. A ready player.

    1. ZIRKZEE is an average player at best and does not fit Ac Milan. is just an over hype 1 season player.

      Please we don’t need him.

  7. If want striker not selfish like Giroud then Zirkzee are best choice for management. He can create chance , physical and willing to help his team mate score the goal( not shooting wild or forcing shooting in bad position)

  8. Please,if it will be JZ , JOSHUA ZIRKZEE let it be on loan with a buying clause, remember the purchase of MARCO BORIELLO, MATRI, etc.

  9. Please, Milan can add new blood like COLOMBO AND DANIEL MALDINI ,AND RETAIN NUMBER 15 MAN. Give them chance and we will thrive convincingly forget about big names, CHIESA AND VLAOVIC,IS JUVENTUS FIRST ON THE LOG?

  10. We need a saviour and I think gyokeres can be that,…Im not against getting zirkz either. I trust Zlatan will do what’s best for Milan
