Diario AS: Milan, Barcelona and Leverkusen tracking Girona midfield ace

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are largely expected to spend the majority of their budget on two positions – a striker and a central defender. However, they are also attempting to sign another defensive midfielder, a report has suggested.

The biggest offsets in the upcoming mercato will be a striker and defender, there are no doubts about it. This morning, reports suggested that Milan are set on Benjamin Sesko, and there have been countless reports about the need for a new central defender.

Aside from that, though, there has been a growing need to add depth to the holding midfield position, and the Rossoneri have established a target for the position. Diario AS reports that the Diavolo are evaluating the signing of Aleix Garcia, the 26-year-old regista, valued at €20 million due to a release clause.

The Spaniard was educated in Villarreal’s youth system before earning a move to Manchester City. However, his best years have been the past two, where he has established himself as a key player for Girona.

He is among the best passers in the league, with numbers close to those that Toni Kroos produces, and he ranks highly for progressive passers.

Given Ismael Bennacer has struggled as of late with injury and then found it difficult to find his pre-injury form and quality, investing in some quality competition, like Garcia, could be a quality bit of business.

There is interest from elsewhere, though, from several teams. Barcelona are the leading side in the chase. However, they are unwilling to spend €20m on the player. Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa are showing interest.

    1. Man, I had exact same comment ready in my head while I was still reading the article. Then I come down here and see this🤣

    2. Looking at his stats on fbref – he can’t, or is average at this at best. We need a midfielder that is proficient in tackling and interceptions. I’d look elsewhere.

  1. This Girona was ‘nobody’ and Man City owners bought them and turned them into monster club in no time.

Can we swap our ownership with them instead of getting any of their player? Lol

  2. PSG defending corners like Pioli is their coach.
On the other hand B Dortmund played as a team and won.
On one PSG counter attack all 11 Dortmund players in 3 seconds were back in or around their own penalty box. All of them. That’s why I keep repeating that the problem at Milan is the coach and not lack of DM. One DM won’t stop a counter or save a goal when 4,5 of his teammates are walking or standing in the opposing team half.
Give me a coach that can make 11 players play as a team. Whoever doesn’t want to run and sacrifice can go. No one should be exempt.

    1. Agree 💯 with this but…. PSG hit the bar 4 times. A team with better finishing would’ve demolished them. And they’re only 5th in the Bundesliga…

      1. Desperate shots from outside the box hit the bar or the post.
PSG had no real scoring chances. Dortmund kept them at bay all game long.

    2. I don’t know if you regularly watch PSG but as usual Donnarumma is at fault on corners. This guy is 2m tall and stay on his line every time haha in the end he did us a favour to leave.

But you can’t blame only the coach, they have a new coach every season and it never works. PSG has probably the worst management in Europe, a lot of conflicts of interest, it’s well covered by French journalist Romain Molina. They notably stockpile players from Jorge Mendes with no logic. They need defenders for years and they bought mostly forwards haha

  3. This same dortmund that was in the group of death with Milan in the final unbelievable. Well what there did in thr group stage against psg allowing them to play draw in the final game if there knew there can beat them while draw and allow my Milan to lose out but I don’t blame them tho, we had our chance we screwed up I feel for mbappe I guess it’s the last season for him then

  4. I kinda forgot there’s UCL until I read the comment section. Was wondering why you guys are talking about PSG and Dortmund in an unrelated post lol
