Abate aims dig at Napoli’s youth team after 2-2 draw: “Defending for 90 minutes”

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan’s Primavera side manages to snatch a point from their clash against Napoli yesterday afternoon, scoring a stunning 97th-minute equaliser. Ignazio Abate, the Rossoneri manager, wasn’t too happy with the opponents.

After conceding two goals, Milan pulled one back through Antonio Gala as Adam Bakoune picked him out with a great cross in the box. With just a few seconds left, in the 97th minute, Youns El Hilali stepped and scored a screamer to make it 2-2 (see the goal here).

Abate, the former Milan man, wasn’t too happy with the attitude of Napoli but made it clear that he liked the Rossoneri’s performance. With a bit more space, he believes they could have won the game.

“Our opponents came here, defending for 90 minutes. It was difficult to create spaces, but I have to say that we certainly did well in the first half. Then when we conceded, there was little space and we had a little too much frenzy when we got into the final third.

“We must remember that we have five or six heavy absences. I’m happy, now let’s recharge the batteries. We need to play an important match after a long break and we will prepare well for the derby,” he told MilanTV.

Milan’s Primavera currently sit in 12th place and while that isn’t good enough, the success in the UEFA Youth League must be remembered. They finished first in the group stage and could go far, based on their performances.
