CorSera: Milan ‘one step away’ from renewing striker’s contract amid Giroud exit

By Isak Möller -

Olivier Giroud has decided to join LAFC for next season and he will thus say goodbye to AC Milan in the summer. As the Rossoneri were open to a contract renewal, the Frenchman’s decision has now opened up a spot for Luka Jovic.

Jovic joined Milan on deadline day in the summer of 2023 and after a very tough start, he has found the back of the net eight times for the Rossoneri. He averages a goal every 122 minutes, which is certainly good, and it remains to be seen if he will get more chances in the coming weeks.

The competition is currently fierce in the No.9 role, with Noah Okafor doing well there too, but Jovic doesn’t need to worry too much about the future. According to today’s edition of Corriere della Sera, as cited by MilanNews, Milan are ‘one step away’ from renewing his contract.

There is a clause for a one-year extension in the current deal and the Rossoneri appear willing to exercise this. It’s also possible that new terms could be negotiated with Jovic’s entourage, but it seems almost certain that he will remain at the club now.

Certainly, Milan will not be able to find any cheaper players, at least none with the qualities of the Serbian striker.

  1. He deserves to stay and deserves to play more often.
Maybe Jovic should start vs Fiorentina. He’d be extra motivated to play against them.
With Pulisic playing 2 matches for the US NT, one of them in extra time, plus the long trip, Chukwueze should also get a chance to start against Fiorentina.

    1. Jovic isn’t a one-striker system player. He struggles at every start. He needs to come in as a sub with another striker already in the box.

He will always be a sub in our system.

      1. Luka Jovic has scored 8 goals and dished out 1 assist this season for Milan.
He was a starter in only 9 games this season in all competitions and has 4 goals and 1 assist in those 9 games playing as the only striker up top. Not to mention that in those games when he started he was mostly playing with other back ups around him and not with Leao and Pulisic.
Jovic not being good as a starter is nothing but false narrative.

        1. Oh wow, very insightful and interesting stats. I also one of those who think Jovic at best is our super subs. But this stats is quite interesting.

        2. And two of those goals as a starter was against a VERY poor opponent in Coppa Italia and the gk practically gifted both goals.

    1. Yeah they forgot that we have Colombo, Origi, CDK, and Lazetic who are striker or second striker and probably Camarda if he gets 2 mil salary or above 😀

  2. If renewal is true, than despite my doubts, I truly hope that he does great. Coach and management obviously know better than me, and if this is their decision, it means that they see something that I don’t.

That means management can now focus all energy to get the starting striker and replace any players that will leave.
