CorSport: Frosinone to Frosinone – Bennacer warms his engines ahead of return

By Oliver Fisher -

Some good news arrived from Milanello yesterday as Ismael Bennacer returned to training with the rest of his AC Milan team-mates in view of tomorrow’s game.

It has been a difficult period for Bennacer, who returned from his long-term knee injury and played a handful of games for Milan (two starts) before heading off to the Ivory Coast for the African Cup of Nations.

However, he suffered an adductor problem while over in Africa and that limited him to playing just one of the three group stage games, with Algeria failing to win any of them and subsequently suffering elimination.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) recalls how Bennacer actually made his long-awaited return against Frosinone in December, the team that are the Rossoneri’s opponents tomorrow.

Could it be a good omen? The paper claims that Stefano Pioli could choose to send Bennacer onto the field from the first minute, especially because Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders are one yellow away from missing potentially the Napoli game in the next round.

Once the treatment room is emptied, Pioli will effectively have a replacement available for each role in the department, meaning he could return to the 4-3-3 when needed.
