Florenzi says Milan players are ‘close to Pioli’ as ‘it could be a good season’

By Isak Möller -

Following the 3-3 draw between AC Milan and Genoa this evening, Alessandro Florenzi spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the performance. He also spoke about the Curva Sud protest and the resulting atmosphere at San Siro.

Florenzi was the MOTM for Milan this time out, as stated in our player ratings, thanks to one goal and one assist. He also stood up well defensively and it’s a shame that it wasn’t enough for the three points, with Genoa equalising late on.

Speaking to Sky Italia and MilanTV after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Florenzi was asked about the performance and the special atmosphere at San Siro. He also made it clear that the squad is with Stefano Pioli until the end.

On the atmosphere…

“The atmosphere was certainly a bit strange. I had experienced scenes like these before, I tried to tell the boys what to prepare for. We didn’t succeed in winning the game but I think that the commitment was maximum.”

On the season finale…

“There are three weeks left and we cannot give up. We must leave the rumours out of Milanello, as we have done in the past. Finishing in second place could be a good season in the end, even if at the beginning, we definitely wanted something else.”

On the Pioli situation…

“We are very close to him in this situation. We know that he has always been our lightning rod, even when we perhaps deserved more criticism than him. The team is with the coach in everything. perhaps he has been a bit too criticised, people quickly forget what was done the day before…”

Milan lacked personality?

“It’s not that we lacked personality. There are many young players who have improved a lot in recent years, obviously there have been some missteps but they are made as a team, like victories. There isn’t an individual mistake but a collective one.”

On his goal…

“It was a nice goal that isn’t worthless, but something along those lines. The team is more important and I have always thought so, I would have preferred not to score and win this match.”

Milan will take on Cagliari next, scheduled for Saturday next week, and it remains to be seen if Florenzi will play from start. Davide Calabria will be back from his suspension then and could give the veteran some rest.

    1. Considering that some of us actually has treated you fairly well and even if the 2nd place isnt bad per se and you just won the scudetto it comes down a bit condescending. You will only be tolerated as long as you don’t mock AC Milan or SempreMilans users.

    2. I’m not being an idiot and saying that this is a bad season. But what did we expect with our horrible tactics and multiple holes in our team. This season was doomed from the start. Hopefully we can start spending more after the new stadium is built.

    3. Anytime I see your sh*tty username, the words b*TCH stfu comes to mind. From the bottom of my heart, respectfully of course ✌️

      1. Old and reliable is always better than young and wreckless. What has Thiaw done to deserve his stay? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Same applies to this season’s Kalulu.

Florenzi is someone who delivers what is expected. And more.

  1. Crash out of CL in the first half of the season, went out of the Scudetto race in the first half of the season, went out of the cup early on, went out of EL at the first real competitor… This was def not a good season.

    1. The real question is why we whent out of europa league not so much in cl. We was at least in the group of death there and all teams could have lost in that pack of teams. As i see it it wasnt even down to Pioli there, Remember Leao trying to make a fancy goal while having a completely open chance against newcastle in the first match at san siro ? Pretty sure Giroud or one of the other players as well squandered great chancein the first match against dortmund at 0-0. Could have changed things.
Losing against Roma over two matches is a different matter because pioli made some horrible decisions in those fixtures coming up with ridiculous experiments. Combine that with our current form it clearly leaves us in turmoil regardless of the second place but in the end EVERYBODY needs to suck up and take the blame but Pioli seems to have lost it and if was up to me he would be sacked this evening and abate would be left as caretaker.

      1. Even in the group of death the way we started i just knew we wont go thru. Just unserious approach, playing without urgency all up until we were in danger of going out. I put that on Pioli for not stating to his players how important is to give everything in such a tough group and pushing them since game 1. As for EL its typical Pioli, he is good against smaller teams cause he has superior team. Then every time he needs to play against a bit better team he struggles. Since Leao cant do solo against bit better teams like with small ones.

        1. Well who says he didnt do that but some players instead chose to be flashy instead of being effective, Anyways the CL is not where i blame Pioli but certainly he failed in the EL.

  2. It could be a good season if we played with a purpose and style.. but we don’t. If they really were for pioli they’d fought tooth and nail for every ball every game.. but they don’t.

  3. Sadly the only player even resembling a true captain of Milan, is the former Roma captain. What is even worse, he is probably leaving and Milan will be left with a bunch of spoiled, entitled brats that throw tantrums when they are taken off the pitch, or get in a fight because they can not lose with grace, refuse to meet the fans, give their jerseys, give interviews because their feelings are hurt.

    1. florenzi isnt leaving at least not before 2025 because he earns around 3-3.5 mil a year and i doubt many clubs would pay that. I nevertheless always liked him since his youth years.
