GdS: ‘€100m for renewals’ – Milan looking to get key contract extensions done

By Oliver Fisher -

While a lot of attention is on the new signings that AC Milan will make in the summer, there is also the need to try protect some of the star players in the squad.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) explains this morning, the most complicated renewals are certainly those concerning Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez, both of whom are on deals expiring in 2026.

The two Frenchmen are two key pillars of the Rossoneri and therefore their extensions are a priority for the management,. In addition to increasing the length of the contract, both want an increase in salary and in this sense it will be necessary to understand what the players’ requests will be and also how far Milan can go in terms of what they can offer.

Added to this is the pressure from some top European clubs who would like to snatch Maignan and Theo Hernandez from Milan, which will of course add a different dynamic to the negotiations.

In addition to the two Frenchmen, there are also other players awaiting renewal: one of these is captain Davide Calabria who has a contract expiring in 2025 and who is also aiming for a salary adjustment (he currently earns €2.2m net per season).

The contracts of Yacine Adli and Matteo Gabbia’s deals will also expire in 2026 , but extending with them doesn’t seem too complicated, especially if you compare it with the negotiations for the renewal of Theo and Maignan.

  1. I won’t be too upset if we cash in on Maignan. He’s a great keeper, but there are others. I don’t think we can lose Hernandez though.

    1. Actually I peg to differ. We cannot pay 8M€ for a GK who isn’t performing as he should. 8M€ costs Milan 16M€ per year. Five years would cost 80M€. That’s insane if you think e.g. Di Gregorio would be just as good for Milan as Mike is. Who knows, Di Gregorio might even save a penalty once a season.

      1. could be. What if he stays and performs? Form changes and we all know Mike can be a beast.

i prefer Carnesecchi tho. Was just watching napoli atalanta and kids very good

        1. “What if he stays and performs?”

If he gets 8M€/y and brings scudetto or UCL-trophy next season I won’t complain. But for 8M€ you better be the best in Calcio…

          1. true.
Szczesny gets 6.5M net and isnt the best. I bet juve is counting the days when they can wave bye bye to him. not saying he is bad tho. a decent keeper

  2. Salaries are a big expense if we look at the gross amount. I think that Mike has the right to ask for a higher salary, but 8 million is simply too much for a goalkeeper in Serie A! We can’t lose Theo ! after all his media appearances in the last couple of years, somehow it seems to me that it would be easier to come to an agreement with him, because he always praises life in Milan. He simply deserves a salary on the level of Leao and I sincerely hope that they will offer it to him.

  3. Both are good but priority must given to Theo. He deserve salary equal to leao while MM i think better below leao salary due to his injury record and drop performance in 2 season. 5m euro nett + bonus 1m euro already fair offer for MM, if he still insist 8m euro nett then it is better sell him and replace him with di gregorio or cragno or provedel

  4. The Calabria Conundrum….

A raise on 2.2mil is tough to process especially since there hasn’t be a raise in quality of his performances…
