GdS: Milan’s probable XI for Empoli encounter – Jovic on the bench

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Empoli away from home tomorrow, hoping to make it three consecutive wins in all competitions. Compared to the mid-week clash against Cagliari, there will be a lot of changes to the starting eleven.

Stefano Pioli fielded a makeshift eleven in the Coppa Italia clash against Cagliari, with the likes of Jan-Carlo Simic, Alex Jimenez and Chka Traore starting. However, it turned out well for Milan as they won the game by four goals to one.

Against Empoli, however, Pioli will revert to the ‘standard’ eleven as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below). This means that Olivier Giroud will play from the first minute, despite Luka Jovic’s recent success with five goals in six games.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Hernandez, Florenzi; Loftus-Cheek, Adli, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

The decision to not start the Serbian is probably one that many Milan fans will complain about. On the other hand, he played the full game against Cagliari just four days ago and his physical condition has only just recouped.

Yacine Adli will be the starting midfielder in the No.6 role, given Ismael Bennacer’s departure for the AFCON with Algeria. The Frenchman will need to build on the performance against Cagliari, impressing in that game.

    1. I dont get it too… jovic is in Form for weeks now and has to sit on the bench. If he get more minutes und he finds Back to his Frankfurt Form, then we have our long Term FW… but no, pioli has to play Giroud

      1. Milan play again in 3 days Giroud should start ahead of jovic who has 90 mins Vs Cagliari but when weekly games resume instead of every 3 days then you have a point about why jovic is not starting. For now it’s a good decision.

  1. Playing Giroud makes no sense considering Jovic form and with Gabbia back why play Theo at CB, he is one of out biggest threats going forward on the left ??!!
Been moaning about defensive crisis, we get Gabbia back and leave him on the bench and play one of our strongest left side threats at CB……

  2. Pioli is great ,Giroud is class …I rest my case .
If Olivier gets service he will score goals …
Yes jovic does appear to have found some form which is good ,,,but hey come on 2 goals against a very poor calagari side means little ,,,had Giroud played then I have no doubt he would have scored goals ..
Jovic will get his chance again for sure ,,,but Giroud must start in all the very important games .
Yes as a back up jovic is useful ..
I believe we have the forwards we need now …no need to rush into another one ..
If Olivier Giroud scores a brace tomorrow..what will the headlines say ..” Giroud is class “ ..well he is anyway …well on his way to scoring 20 goals this season in all competitions…I told you all this before season had begun..
We are now going to go on a willing run ,,starting from tomorrow..

  3. Ah…..Jović is way to slow, too heavy, and bit lazy too.All 4 he scored were more then lucky goals with plenty of great chances missed, almost 100% chance goals….He is not able to finish an action after short dribling,or 20 meters run…he simply can not bring the shot up from the bottom(((please check his goals/missed chances))).There are no voley shots(except one!!!)no full power shots,no straight/effet full shots in or outside of 16.That happeneds when player is not able to do it properly cause of lack of strenght.End of discusion.Double against Cagliari…Theater…two great chances missed, two lucky goals with 2 terible endings.I am so sorry that a guy who was a threat to everyone when in Frankfurt after transfer to Real got 10 Kg plus.I am realy sorry…he was more then good.Way more then good.I doubt he will ever get to that point again.I wish I am wrong in this…
