Giroud’s agent reveals details of who Milan beat to the Frenchman’s signature

The agent of Olivier Giroud has revealed some details about which other clubs were trying to sign him before AC Milan managed to secure the striker.

Speaking during an interview with Il Giornale (via SempreMilan.it), Vincenzo Morabito discussed the move that he worked on which saw Giroud leave Chelsea where he was struggling to succeed and go to Milan.

Morabito praised Milan executives Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara for how quickly they acted to make sure that they secured the services of Giroud, who has become a crucial player for Inter in the past 18 months.

“Maldini and Massara did well to believe in him and want him at all costs. The negotiations last summer were breaking down when Marina Granitovskaia surprisingly activated the renewal option and asked for compensation to free him,” he said.

He then alluded to the fact that both Lazio and Juventus wanted Giroud with Simone Inzaghi, the then-Lazio coach, specifically asking for Giroud.

“Now someone must be biting their elbows. Simone Inzaghi wanted him at all costs in January 2021, but they did not listen to him and then spent €20 million on Muriqi 6 months later; while Paratici preferred Morata to him,” Morabito said.

Lazio fans will be very annoyed that the club opted to spend much more money on Vedat Muriqi considering he had no impact and has since moved on to a new club.
