Olivier Giroud has claimed that he is not thinking about his future beyond the end of the current season despite the fact his contract with AC Milan is set to expire.
Giroud was named athlete of the year some time ago by Le Dauphiné libéré in his native Savoy and he was interviewed regarding a number of topics related to the year of 2023 and beyond, with MilanNews relaying his comments.
“On a personal level, my season is going well. I’m further ahead than in previous years. In 13 games I scored 8 goals and made 4 assists [5 after the match against Salernitana, the interview was released before Christmas],” he said.
Giroud also admitted that he has always checked the numbers over the years, which is also a symptom of how much he cares about football and his work.
“I have always kept an eye on my statistics, because everyone knows that a striker is judged by his numbers. I feel good, even at 37, and I’m doing my part. I’m happy in this team.”
The 37-year-old spoke about the Scudetto, which at the moment seems tough with Milan 9 points away from the top, even if giving up on the belief is not an option.
“There is a lot of competition, Inter and Juve are having a great season. We are trying to keep up with the locomotive.”
Finally, he was asked about his future given the reports circulating suggesting that another one-year renewal with Milan is far from a formality and that a move to the MLS might well become tempting.
“What can I tell you about my future? I’m not looking beyond this season.”
It will be a sad day when this man hangs up his boots .
I personally believe and hope he will carry on after this season ..His stats this year considering his age 37 years are pretty good..
I have rated this man Olivier Giroud for many years , and indeed in my opinion he is world class
I feel certain that this season we will see many more goals from him ..He is a winner .
