Guardian: Milan and Chelsea among clubs watching 21-year-old Gent defender

AC Milan are among the clubs who are closely scouting Gent’s Archie Brown ahead of a potential move this summer, according to a report.

It has been widely reported in the Italian media that Milan intend to sign a new left-back in the summer window. The obvious position at the moment is as the deputy to Theo Hernandez, but given the reports of interest from Bayern Munich it might be a signing with a view to being a long-term successor.

The Guardian are reporting that Chelsea and West Ham are monitoring Gent’s Archie Brown, who left Derby County for Lausanne three years ago and has ended up in Belgium. The 21-year-old was originally a winger, but has now moved back to full-back.

He has a chance of being included in England’s U21 squad for the first time this month which shows how much he has developed, and the two London clubs are keen on bolstering their options in that role.

However, Milan are mentioned as being competitors for Brown – who is valued at around £15m (€17.5m) – in addition to Juventus, Lyon and Nice. He has made 32 appearances for Gent so far this season across all competitions, with two assists to his name.
