Ibrahimovic on retirement and his sons playing for Milan: “I treat them as teammates”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic retired at the end of last season after struggling with serious injuries during the campaign. In a recent interview, the Swede has opened up about his retirement and also discussed his sons playing for AC Milan.

The 42-year-old decided to retire in June and was thanked by the Milan fans at San Siro after the win against Hellas Verona. It came as a shock to most as he was expected to continue for one year, and no one knew about his decision beforehand (not even club officials).

Speaking to Piers Morgan on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Ibrahimovic shared his thoughts on many topics including his recent retirement. He also spoke about his two sons Maximilian and Vicent, who play in the academy of Milan.

On retiring…

“I just retired three months ago, I accepted it. In the end, I wasn’t feeling good. I could have continued suffering physically but I wanted to feel good. I didn’t want to have physical consequences after my career, I think I stopped at the right moment.”

On his sons playing for Milan…

“They play for Milan now. They are very focused and the important thing is that they don’t do it for me. I treat them as if they are my teammates. They have to be happy, healthy and have discipline.”

It remains to be seen if Ibrahimovic will make a return to the club for a position within the management. Giorgio Furlani, the Rossoneri’s CEO, recently stated that they are ready to welcome the Swede back if he wants it.
