MN: De Ketelaere’s fate confirmed – how he will boost Milan’s summer budget

By Euan Burns -

Charles De Ketelaere is expected to remain at Atalanta on a permanent basis this summer following a successful loan spell in Bergamo.

As reported by Milan News, it now appears to be an inevitability that Milan will lose De Ketelaere in the summer as Atalanta should exercise the option they have to make the loan deal permanent.

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi explained before a Coppa Italia match against Fiorentina that he thinks the Belgian should try and secure a future at the place he feels comfortable.

“I would suggest that he confirm his home in Bergamo, because it is a beautiful city where he is very comfortable,” Percassi said.

De Ketelaere failed to score at all during the 2022/23 season with Milan after he had signed for €36.5m, but this season across Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Europa League, he has scored 11 goals and provided eight assists.

Atalanta are still fighting in all three competitions too, so more goals will presumably come.

It seems that the Belgian youngster has found a home and that means Milan will get €23m, and potentially another €2m in add-ons, which can be used to sign players in other positions during the summer. There is also a 10% resale clause.

  1. That is now 4 players that Milan has let go in that CAM role that have successfully gone on and value that is surpassing RLC’s value (€25M):

    Paqueta – €65M
    Calhanoglu – €40M
    CDK – €30M
    Brahim Diaz – €35M (could’ve been purchased for €20M)

Shows something about how Pioli has wasted this talent for us.

    1. I agree 100%. It’s pretty sad too.

It’s not just Pioli though. It’s also Moncada behind the scenes. Previously, we always had Maldini to double check Moncada’s recommendations. We were growing a team, slowly, but improving. Made it back to CL and competed for Serie A title.

Now? Moneyball moncada steps in and in 1-2 seasons and literally destroyed everything that was built.

We don’t have a team with a Milan mindset. We have a bunch of individuals with Moncada & Cardinale licking their lips to buy low and sell high. Listen to Cardinale talk for 5 minutes. His EGO shines through more than anything else. He nonstop talks about profit but fails to realize that requires more than slapping random players together.

      Milan’s performance and growth?

IRRELEVANT. It’s all about the Benjamins.

      1. Way too dramatic. Just calm it down a bit. Your hyperbole negates a lot of the good points you make.

“Literally destroyed everything that was built”???

We’ve had a pretty good season. I’m not happy with 2nd place, and I also want Pioli to be replaced.

But the new players will get better next season, and hopefully with a new coach we’ll have both better organization on the pitch and more motivation.

Just try to relax a bit. Let’s see what happens next.

        1. A good season?

You’ve just lost all credibility at the first sentence. You must be the sit back, feet up kinda fan that doesn’t have passion for the club.

          The highlight kinda guy.

Mr highlights, listen, there is nothing too dramatic about what was said. Infact, everything he said was the harsh reality of the state of our club.

          1. Yes, first place, or everyone commit seppuku. Immolate yourself in the fire of the failure that is not winning every game, every title, every year.

  2. Diaz was not very compatible with Serie A as AM, in fact his best games he had were probably as right winger. At Real he’s playing as a backup on a very attacking team, imho it was the right decision to let him go.

Pioli was the first coach with whom Calhanoglu got more consistency and raised his stats. He was very valued by Pioli and we wouldn’t have offered him 5 mill if that was not the case. If we didn’t get him, part of the fault rests with Elliot/Gazidis for the salary cap we had at the time.

Paqueta was playing worse than Bonnaventura, enough said.

CDK was 21 and on his first year in Italy, and many (including Tonali, Leao, etc) have had issues in their first year in Serie A. This is not Football Manager.

    1. Nice one.
Now keep offering Milan talents low wages and see who will remain.

You think this is 2008 and backwards 🤔 so funny how these fans wants these players to accept peanuts because they are playing for AC Milan.

      1. “so funny how these fans wants these players to accept peanuts because they are playing for AC Milan.”

so funny how these fans think Milan can afford to compete with Saudi money and offer even mediocre players 10M€ per season.

        1. Valid point BB. Some ppl think money are unlimited like saudi club and ACM must pay whatever that player want for salary even if they are mediocre

    2. Yeh spot on – Paqueta said himself he never felt at home at Milan, struggled with the language etc. CDK feels at home because he’s an average player at an average club with zero expectations.

  3. The resale clause should be a nice chunk of change given Atalanta’s history. Another 5-6mil easily which will bring the total resale to 30-32mil. Which is plenty for a player who couldn’t perform under the bright lights.

That money hopefully gets wisely reinvested into quality & experience.

  4. CDK had his chance at Milan, but, didn’t do well. Good for him, and Milan, that he found his rhythm at Atalanta. Even if he comes back, he’ll be under greater pressure to impress. So, it’s best for him to stay there. No losers.

  5. It is good for him and his career stay at atalanta . He is pure SS and enjoy play in 2 striker infront system like 352 .
