Leao must use Portugal boost and lead Milan to victory against Fiorentina

Rafael Leao was one of the best players for Portugal in their 5-2 win against Sweden last night, opening the scoring with a lovely strike. Now, he must use this boost and lead AC Milan to victory against Fiorentina.

It has been a season filled with ups and downs, suffering a goal drought in the league between September and February. On top of that, he hasn’t always been that consistent in the overall play either, resulting in great frustration both for himself and the fans.

Against Sweden, however, he truly showcased his class with a stellar performance in the 45 minutes he was on the pitch. He made life incredibly difficult for the Swedish backline and the opening goal was a lovely sight, having the composure to take a touch and then bury it in the top corner.

While Portugal is a much better national team than Sweden, Leao was up against the Atalanta man Emil Holm. The latter came out on top in Milan’s Coppa Italia encounter with the Bergamo side, but yesterday’s game was the complete opposite and it wasn’t even a close affair.

In short, Leao must use this boost in confidence to lead Milan against Fiorentina, which will be a tough game away from home. He will be without his partner Theo Hernandez on the left flank, which is a huge blow for him and the Rossoneri, but that is all the more reason to step up and shine.

He has been given extra time off by both Milan and Portugal, so he should also be well-rested.
