L’Equipe journalist offers reassuring update about Hernandez’s future: “He’s a captain”

By Ben Dixon -

As is the case regularly, interest in several of AC Milan’s star players is high, and this summer, the club are bracing themselves for offers for several of their prized assets. However, a French journalist has offered some reassurance about the future of Theo Hernandez.

Reports in recent months have suggested that Milan could sell one of their stars this summer, and this was reaffirmed when it was suggested that they might have to make sacrifices to improve their squad in the summer mercato.

One of the players who several clubs are interested in is Theo Hernandez. The Frenchman is often at the heart of what the Rossoneri do, which has been shown when he has represented the side as the captain and when he hasn’t.

It is not just as a leader where he excels, though. On several occasions, Theo has proved to be the focal point of the Diavolo, providing vital moments of inspiration when the side needs it most, and this has several clubs interested. However, the Rossoneri are not looking to sell unless a ‘crazy’ offer was received.

L’Equipe journalist Valentin Pauluzzi spoke to MilanNews about Theo’s importance to Milan and offered his opinion on how his future may go.

“On Maignan, I would wait because, for example, Theo was in the same situation when he renewed: he was already one of the best in his role, with clubs ready to offer him twice as much as Milan could offer, but in the end he chose the sporting project. Who knows if Maignan will make the same choice in the end, because in any case, the group component is important. I don’t think it is easy to leave Milan because of what has been created. Of course, it’s not the Milan of Ancelotti’s era, but even here there is a good sense of belonging.”

Theo is another player that the big names of Europe like…
“The same applies. By now he’s a captain on a par with Calabria. Maldini’s farewell was eventually metabolised, you could think that the players could ask themselves some questions but in the end, it all went away.”

  1. For Theo, I’d hope that he stays but I don’t think that will happen… it’s kinda like the lottery feeling with admittedly bigger percentage, I’d hope that I win the lottery, but I don’t think that will happen.

    1. He has shown in the past how much he likes this club. If they don’t force him out he will stay. Only reason why would he leave on his own is if the club doesn’t match his ambition. If they keep selling our top players and replacing them with 20mil averages… Then yea he might want to go somewhere else to win trophies, but who can blame him for that. The guy is a Champion and he deserves a club that want trophies.

      1. Agree, it would be hard to say no to big offers and the chance to win more trophies. At the moment, no club in Italy can compete on that, at attracting and retaining talent, hence why he’ll leave.
I hope all the best to him as long as he’s not playing against Milan

      1. But we do need to sell him, unlike with Berlusconi ,current management knows how to value things. If we don’t sell him this year and we don’t agree on a new contract prior to summer window, next year his value will be going down and we’ll lose a lot of negotiating power (see Inter with Skriniar)

  2. If you’re being employed in a particular company and you have 2 years of experience, you will get a salary that your experience worth, but when your experience advances to 5 years of experience and they offer you the same salary you got when you were still with 2 years of experience or slightly higher, would you take?

The answer is no no one would do that except if the person doesn’t wanna grow.

Theo Hernandez is yet to make a demand, when he does you will see some clowns bashing him because he requested for a salary his experience worth, just like what they are doing to Maignan now.

I hope he gets an offer that he deserves elsewhere if Milan can’t match what he will demand. Theo is a world class LB and one of the best in that position currently but milans fans in this platform are ingrates.

  3. I think Theo will stay. He loves the club and fans. He is basically the captain of the team. He loves the city, he is already a family man and his girlfriend is in the modelling/influencer bs, so I doubt she is willing to move. He has his co-branding with the club, that he can utilize further (read extra cash), as he is also a fan favorite. He is the player he is because Milan helped him develop, gave him the time, space and freedom to grow. There are not many clubs and managers that will give him what he has right now. If he leaves I doubt it will be now.
