Longo: Pioli reaches verbal agreement with Napoli amid scheduled Milan exit

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli is expected to leave AC Milan at the end of the season and he’s already looking for a new club, per several reports. Indeed, in the last few hours, the news of an agreement with Napoli has emerged.

Milan are currently in second place with a five-point cushion down to third place, with the clear goal now being to defend their position. Pioli is keen on ending his long tenure at the club on a good note, following several disappointments this season.

According to Daniele Longo, the manager is also keeping an eye on the future as his departure from Milan has been confirmed. A verbal agreement has already been reached with Napoli for a three-year contract, with the Partenopei keen on restoring some order at the club.

Based on how Napoli operate under Aurelio De Laurentiis, Pioli seems like the perfect choice as he most likely will be able to guarantee a top-four finish for the club. No contract has been signed yet, though, so things could still change between now and the end of the season.

In the meantime, Pioli is focused on his remaining games with Milan and it remains to be seen what the farewell will be like in the final game. After all, we must remember that he brought the Rossoneri back to the top, reaching the UCL semi-finals and winning the Scudetto.

      1. Top 4 will get dense next season.

Roma has a very strong squad in some areas and in the form they showed under De Rossi they surely are a big candidate for top 4

Juve will usually get a top 4, Allegri is a strong coach and Motta likewise.

Inter is set for top 4 pretty much.

If we drop the ball that could end quite uncomfortable and there are the likes of Atalanta and Lazio only lurking for signs of weakness.

  1. He’s close to perfect for what Napoil needs right now.

He’s spent 5 seasons playing the same tactical system. He will unit the dressing room and get everyone pulling in the same direction.

As I understand things, they’re losing Victor O and Zielinski but not Kvara. They’ll have the money to replace and build on the squad.

Ngonge is an addition people seem to forget about. Politano hit a purple patch. They’ve got strong flanks. Maybe Pioli plays a 4-2-3-1 to see if they can get value out of Lindstrom (who Napoli paid a hefty sum for despite not playing with a CAM).

Really need a few CBs even if Natan comes on because Rachmani is average. Another midfielder or 2 is also needed.

None of it is unachievable. If they sell Kvara, they’ll lose match winning quality, but will have something in the range of 150m to use to revamp the squad. Even then, Pioli works because he can unite things quickly.

I suspect he is laying the foundation for the next guy, in much the same way that he did at Milan, but that suits everyone (including us because we don’t have to pay out his contract).

  2. Am I dreaming or have we reached a consensus in this comment section 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Anyway… I agree, this is good for all parties.

  3. I don’t want to jinx it. But it would be really funny and also ironic if next season Pioli can reach top 4 with Napoli but Milan with whoever the replacement got out from top 4 or even 6 lol.

      1. I think he means funny in a tragic comedy sense.

We’ve had a lot of tragic comedy moments before Pioli came to Milan which is why so many of our ex-players now play for our direct rivals including inter.

        1. Man, why you’re the only one who understand my joke? The other who replied are just brainless fans with anger issues lol.
