Maldini on ‘magical’ UCL night, Spalletti incident and ‘growing’ trust for Leao renewal

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of the big clash between AC Milan and Napoli, Paolo Maldini spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the Champions League. As he has said before, the Rossoneri must allow themselves to dream.

Milan are optimistic about making it through to the semis but there is no doubt that two tough games await. Regardless of the 4-0 win a little over a week ago, maximum concentration and grit will be needed to be successful again.

Speaking to Infinity (via MilanNews), Maldini shared his thoughts on the big game and also the season for Milan. They haven’t done well in the league this year, but the Champions League venture has certainly helped a lot financially.

On UCL nights…

“The atmosphere is magical, it hasn’t been like this for a few years and we’re super happy. We’re proud of our path but also hopeful of going forward to give us even more dreams. The league clash [4-0 win] has allowed us to return to a level that in the last three months we haven’t always achieved.”

Pioli spoke about dreams yesterday…

“Dreams are part of Milan’s technical and moral baggage, we have a team that hasn’t expressed its maximum level yet. Ours is a young squad, for their future, players must experience these emotions and these dreams.”

How is Leao’s renewal going?

“Trust is growing, but today it’s not the right thing to focus on. Today we are on the same path, we and Leao, so we have a common goal.”

Maldini was also asked about the incident he had with Spalletti at half-time when the two teams last met. He decided not to say but did make his stance on the matter clear anyway.

“I don’t want to comment on this thing. He has already done it and, for my taste, he spoke too much.”
